Default 944S2 Heater Core Leak

Well, I guess I found what was causing my windows to fog-up on warm days... Telltale signs on the passenger-side floor mat led me to the source... and what I hope won't be a nightmare.

Anyone else seen this?
How hard is it to fix/replace whatever is leaking?
Does the whole dashboard have to come out?
Being in So. CA, and it's spring, should I just bypass the heater core by putting a pipe between the two hoses that clamp to the firewall?

Looks like it is time to pull the heater core. You can do it without pulling the dash or HVAC unit. It slides out the passenger side. Definitely have to move some stuff out of the way, but not horrible.

... uh... yup. Heater core. D'ya think?
Anyone have a GOOD used one they don't need?

I had an '87 944 NA that had 318K miles on the odo and it never had anything like this happen to it.

Ya know... sometimes close-up images of bad car parts can make really nice abstract art.

... is it me or does it look like someone's tried to repair this heater core before ... and did a real crappy job?

At least that core is metal... my POS audi uses a plastic core and when it failed it dumped hot water all over the driver's feet.

It happened in the summer, so I bypassed it and it worked fine for the few months until I got around to installing a new heater core.

Yeah, I've got one. Make an offer, no idea what is fair.
