Default '85 944 tire options

I have Fuchs 15" x 7" front and 8" rears.

Looking for some tire recommendations?

So far I found

BF goodwrech, T/A radial in 205/60/15 and 225/60/15 for the rears

Or should I stay with the stock size 215/60/15? This doesn't makes sence to me that the tires are the same size but the rims are 1" wider in the back?

What have you guys used?

1) performance
2) price
3) longevity
4) road noise.

I went a bit wider in the rear , and used the Kumho ecsta model , all season , good grip and tread wear . I also have the 15" Fuchs . Good luck and let us know what you choose .

Thanks, its a summer only car, maybe a track day or two, but I will surely use it for golf trips 2-3hrs each way, and going to the cottage 4hrs.

AFAIK, the OEM tire sizes were originally staggered, to follow the rims. 215's all the way around is probably someone's choosing.

I have 3 944's, and am running square sizes on all of them. My 85 street car is on 7x15 Phonedials with 225/50's. My 89 S2 street is on 9x16's with 245/50's. And my 84 racer is on 15x8's with 225/50 Hoosiers. IMHO, the fronts are narrower from the factory to induce some understeer. I think the car actually handles better with 4 tires of same size. Of course, turbo 951's may have a different need for more rubber out back.

I would consider 225's all the way around; I'm pretty sure they'll fit fine. Another nice feature of a square setup is that you can rotate the tires periodically; more effective than doing a L to R swap on 2 different sizes.

Just my 2 cents......

BFG g-Force/sport, id go 215/60 in front and 225/60 in the rear, although those are a bit bigger.

i currently run 225 all around, 50 in the front though/60 rear and it sticks nicely but i will be going back to a 215/60 for ground clearance purposes (sitting at about 3.5" presently)

215mm = 8.4"

Technically, a 215 isn't undersized on an 8" rim.. but a 225 will also fit.. and so can a 245 also fit on an 8" rim.

One impact a staggered tire size can have is to reduce oversteer. Contrastingly, it can increase understeer

For a "regular" use car, a 215 or 225 would be fine on all 4 corners. Note a 225/60 will have a slight impact on speedo reading since its a slightly taller tire. Your speedo would read "low" vs actual speed.
