The front corner of the fenders on a 944 are different than a 951... near the headlight area the 944 fender goes to a point where the 951 fenders go more of a smooth transitional line.

So the CGT bumper (replica bumper) is designed to fit the NA then, correct?

Why would Porsche make such a small change in their fender design? Seems odd. But that does explain why, when I look at a NA with a Turbo nose on it, it looks just a little off...

Recall that the CGT was based on 924 parts.. which was the old plain front bumper and fenders. To make the 944T look better ( ) as well as facilitate intercooler cooling and radiator cooling they redesigned the front bumper cover and one impact is the fenders. Porsche often makes things a little harder than they need to be, but the results are appreciated.

Consider the base 986 and 996.. neither of which has a center radiator, yet the 996 comes with different venting (for the cooler) while the base boxster doesn't. The parts could have been the same.. but they aren't!

I am over the hump on my turbo swap into an n/a. Since it is kind of a special car I was planning on going with a cgt bumper.

Does anyone here actually have one installed?

I'm surprised they would re-tool for such a minor change in the fender. Seems like they could have made a new front bumper et al w/o changing the fenders. But hey...what do I know? I'm just a designer!

ya porsche was a little funny when it came to that minor change in the fender. you can make 944 fenders into 951 fenders by trimming the corner off So ya the GT fiberglass bumper should fit a 944, it depends how authentic you wish it to look if your not picky you could just fiberglass the missing corner.

Great project idea btw

I like your objective: 5K + 5K. This may expand the discussion to other models perhaps. I still think a 924S with an 86 951 drivetrain is doable under these constrints and you'll have the old style interior already in place.
These cars in play within this discussion are getting expensive however. I'd hate to see you go through another "964" experience like you had.

i want a 951 drivetrain in my 924s. i i wouldnt want the extra baggage though. i would go euro 931 with the exterior:

euro bumpers
931 hood
931 header panel
my current wheels (both sets)
my current 944 spoiler

sample euro 931 for you 924 haters:

Yeah, my last Pcar experience was a nightmare. I think part of my reasoning for looking for an initial investment of under $5k is I can find out pretty quickly if I'll like the car enough to spend money on it. And if I have to unload it, I should be able to with minimal outlay.

Of course, my $5k + $5k plan won't work for the 951 backdate...most decent cars around me are in the $7500 range with nice ones over $10k. (Not sure I'd want to backdate a really nice original one.) I think a 951 under $5k would probably be pretty scary!

But when you compare that plan to putting a 951 drivetrain into a 924S...for which I would have to pay for help because I'm an average wrench at best...it starts to look far more attractive and maybe worth stretching my $5k + $5k plan.

Of course, there's this 912 for sale locally....

Extra baggage like the nicer interior, stiffer body, wider stance, better HVAC system and better electrical layout? Yeah, I wouldn't want that either.
