951 Oil Cooler Plate ? Which 3 Piece OPR Valve On Early NA
Hey all , been off the forum for a while , got the M3 bug and have been dorking with it for the last year or so . I finally have the time to finish the track 944 and have a few questions .
I have the 951 oiler cooler plate and it came with a 3 piece OPR valve . My question is , should I use the unit that came out of my block , or the one that came with the cooler adapter . The block is a 83 , and has the short spring and allen cap OPR valve . The one that came with the cooler has the 17 mm cap , with the long spring , and thus has a long recess in the cap/plug for the spring . My thought was to use the old 10 mm hex cap , spring , plunger , with the new cooler plate . What works for you guys ?

IIRC, there are two different OPRVs. One is a different length than the other(late vs. early retrofit). I would use the set up that fits the oil cooler plate from the turbo as the difference is in the housing, not the block. Again, this is from memory, so wait for the smart guys to chime in. If you search Pelican parts, you will see the different applications and I think the one that fits your 951 plate would be the correct one.
