Default Petrol gauge

Like my speedo, my fuel gauge is out. It never shows full. I have been pushing it by going further and further each time, and today had it on reserve. When I couldn't take it any more I bit the bullet and filled her up, it was still only 65 litres. I know tank is 80 litres, so still had plenty left. First few times I thought it was low(below 1/4 tank) it only took 40 litres. I plan on getting speedo fixed, and have been told the mob who do that, can do fuel gauge too, so will get it done at same time.

I seem to recall reading that there is a warning light that comes on with 9 litres to go and am just wondering if that was true? I was hoping to see it today but squibbed out due to gauge being so low.

peace

This information is from MY 1987 NA Owners manual:

If the needle enters the area in the bottom and the fuel reserve indicator lights up, there is only a reserve of about. 2.1 U.S. gal/8 liters left in the tank. Time to refuel at the next gas station.
