Default Mystery bottle

I was removing the battery to charge it and clean the terminals and noticed a small round black bottle to the left of the battery. There is also what looked like a small vacuum hose sitting disconnected next to it. What does this container do on a 1986 951?

Its the vacuum canister for the HVAC system. Hook the vacuum line back up to it.

It stores vacuum. So while you're accelerating you have enough vacuum to keep the heater working.

At least that's what a Porsche mechanic told me.

Well that might explain why the climate control doesn't regulate the temperature correctly. I thought that all the HVAC doors and flaps were servo operated?

The doors are, but the temp control is vacuum operated.
