Default Buying from Auto-auctions....

Theres a big wholesale auction house near me - just south of Stl. Adusa, I think, is the name. I'm pretty sure I need a dealers license to bid. Can anyone give me insights on what it takes to do this?...Bruce

http://dor.mo.gov/forms/Dealer_Operating_Manual.pdf

really more hassle then its worth unless your looking to go into business....
And unless your planning on moving 6+ cars a year......youd likely do better trying to find someone else with a dealers license to act as your "agent" at the auction.

Don't know how it is in the states, but here in Ontario we just show up pay a registration fee get a number and bid. Good luck!

Adesa is a pretty big outfit. Dealer requirements vary from state to state - MI just changed to require a certain square footage and minimum hours of operations, which put the kibosh on a lot of mom and pop dealers.

I used to go with a small dealer, I went as either the "mechanic" or "driver" as the auction place limited who could go in without a dealer's license.

You may want to check your state's website to see who licenses dealerships (here in MI, it's the Secretary of State - other places, could be DMV or a consumer protection agency). They should be able to provide you with info on licensing and/or a "dealer's manual" that shows all the requirements

edit: For Missouri, it's the Dept f Revenue.

http://dor.mo.gov/motorv/liendeal/ at the bottom are some PDFs - requirements for licensing, etc

Good luck!
