IIRC my current record for the job (including WP and rollers) is about an hour... but I am sure I could trim that a bit if pressed...
Excellent time to also consider doing the front end seals if any oil leaks are present... as it is almost all the way apart anyway!
I can rattle off the tools needed, order to go in, and tension almost by divination at this point...

I can believe that a shop would call the Stealer and only use OEM parts... easily driving the parts cost thru the roof. I think dealer cost for a WP is over $500?
Check around for an indy shop with a knowledge of 944's.

you'll be well past $1.5 K when getting everything together for changing the third set of belts on a (968) staying "oem"/Porsche dealer.
timing belt.
balance belt.
pullies/rollers/tensioner.
accessory belt.
H20 pump.
hoses.
cam chain.
cam chain pads.
hall sender.
seals, gaskets.
coolant.... this is also the right time to be doing the fuel lines. Zims, Paragon, and German usually beat Pelican's prices by a substantial amount (sorry). whatever you can't get there, then Pelican/Sunset/Suncoast Porsche.

As mentioned, the big thing raising the price is likely the Water Pump. Also the price on many of these parts have gone up in the last year, especially Belts.
You can ask them for a break down of the price for labor and parts. You might try asking them to use an aftermarket one, or supply your own you get it more in range. Though, having seen a few east coast invoices, they are usually a bit on the crazy price side of things.
Personally, I don't mind using an aftermarket water pump, but my belts are always Genuine.
