I still have the templates I made up to build box but not sure how I could get them online to share. If anyone can suggest how, I am happy to post them up. I can take more pics if needed, but otherwise not sure how to do it

peace

unfortunately using drawing programs etc isn't something I can do. The box is form following function, as I needed to keep it on carpet hinge, and under lip, so car dictated basic shape.

I have almost finished sanding and about ready to polish the box. Once I had enough layers of finishing resin on. I began the sanding process. This involves sanding with progressively finer grades of sandpaper, so that the scratches made by the last grade of paper are wiped out by the next grade. In theory you can go from 100(course) to 200 to 400(fine) to 800 and up, but I used 600 after the 400, then 800 and am now at 1000(super fine). I may hit the box with 1200 and higher, as I could go up to 2000 grit, but I also have to be careful not to sand too much as I don't want to cut through the resin layers to the carbon Fibre layer, as this would be a disaster. Once I am happy with the finish I will begin to polish the box to a high gloss finish. This is the same as polishing automotive paint.
Here is the box after 1000 grit sanding

So you're going to make it as shiny as possible? It might blend in with the interior more if it was a bit rough, at least that's what I would consider. Project looks really fun. I can't wait to get involved in something like this once I deal with all the mechanical issues!

It's not a bad idea as stealth is definitely the best way to prevent theft but I just love how good CF looks shiny. I will be using the rear hatch cover which should make it less obvious.

I spent today finishing the sanding, and then gave her a polish. I think I will go a an even higher grade sandpaper and try and get some more gloss. Here are a few more pics

I hit the box with 1200 grit sandpaper, then 1500 grit, then finally 2000 grit. I then used some cutting compound to polish it up, and finalyl gave it a wax with some Zymol

Cheers. yeah I am really happy with how it looks. Am really keen to get it finished and start enjoying it. It has turned out pretty much how I first envisaged it, which is cool, and not always how things pan out.

That looks awesome! I'm doing a similar box myself (minus the CF), but recessed into the side cubby. Not an easy project, I can appreciate how much work went into yours. Be sure to post pics with the sub in there, can't wait to see the final appearance!
