The original plan was to take it down to Sebring for the 12 Hours, which is that same weekend. Nort offered to get me pit passes. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to do that and still get it home over the four days that I was able to schedule off.
I'll be going up the coast through Daytona & Jacksonville and then overnighting with friends in Florence SC on Fri 18 March. There's still an outside chance I might be able to get some extra time off, which if I do, we're thinking of jogging over to the Atlanta area to visit with more friends on Sat 19 March, and then up to the Tail of the Dragon followed by the Blue Ridge Parkway from there. But unfortunately, Sebring and Atlanta are not on the itinerary right now...just not enough time to fit it all into four days.
Fingers crossed that the extended trip will work out...hope to know by end of this week...

haha man... I've been LITERALLY drooling over this car for about a year or two, every time I see it around town. The last time I saw it Nort brought this car as well as an old 911 Speedster and a few other rare models to the Rolex 24-hours at Daytona. Congrats on the new car and I'm definitely going to miss seeing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a fan of the dragon myself. Certainly keep the BRP plans (keep in mind certain sections may be closed, although it's open in most sections around me) If you need alternative routes, there are very good ones; I can help direct you. I live less than a mile from the BRP about 45 min. North of Asheville.
It would be nice to meet you and #15.

Dan:
This car was once owned by my Dad. The family sold the car when he died about 20 yrs ago. My Dad found it located in the corner of a warehouse in Belguim. He went thru the process of coverting the car from Euro safety/emissions spec to U.S. spec to be able to import into this country. The car has sinced passed thru at least one more owner, maybe two counting Nort.
Had some enjoybale rides in this car thru the country roads of Pa. . From my Dad's collection of cars, this car was a favorite of mine and my son's . You might say that this car began our love of the front engine Porsche, which then manifested itself many years later when we started up a race series for front engine Porsches........the 944 Cup.......which you are now a sponsor of.
It's a small world.

^^^ that is cool.
Back to your itinerary: if you don't end up scheduling anything in Maryland, I highly recommend heading west on 250 through West Virginia rather than north on the Skyline drive. After you've been on the BRP for that distance, Skyline won't really add anything to your journey. 250, west of I-81, on the other hand, is nirvana.

Dave, that is fantastic! I knew that part of the story, but of course didn't make the connection. What a small world!!!
As of this moment, I am planning on spending the night with friends in the Rockville area on Sunday 20 March. Seems like there's a small contingent in the MD/VA/DC area...maybe a little Sunday evening get-together is in order...!

Let me know as you get closer to that date for Rockville, not that far from me. May be able to drive out to meet you in one of my Dad's other cars for a reunion....... of sorts.
