Default 968 Oil Pump Housing Gasket Leak

As a few of you know, I am attempting to fix all the oil leaks on my motor. I now have all the belts and belt housings off the front of the engine needed to work on a lower balance shaft leak. I noticed that I have a small "weeper" around a few of the bolts that attach the oil pump housing to the front of the engine. Can I remove the pump housing from the engine to renew the gasket seal of the pump housing WITHOUT disturbing the attachment of anything internal to the housing (like the oil pickup tube)? If the housing comes right off, it will be very easy to fix the leaker.

Oil pump is in a very different area in comparison to the oil pickup tube. You can remove the pump and use locktite 574 to reseal it.

Thanks Raj. While I have you, can I ask if you have any experience with re-sealing the lower balance shaft housing and cover plates? I did this job once, but apparently did something incorrectly since I still have a leaker from the front of the assembly......where the front housing mates up to the BS cover plate. Assume that I can use 574 there as well, right?

you will have to lower the oil pan about an inch to be able to remove the oil pump. You shouldn't need any sealer on the lower balance shaft housing as long as all the o-rings and seals are changed.

You are correct about the front housing; however, the balance shaft cover plate requires a form-a-gasket type product such as Loctite 574. And, getting a good seal with the motor in the car is tough since the motor mount bracket makes it tough to work on the lower assembly.

Also, why do I need to drop the oil pan to get the pump housing off the motor?

I misunderstood what you were referring to concerning the balance shaft. You have to lower the pan because the front two pan bolts bolt into the pump, also the pan gasket sits in a machined groove in the oil pump
