Default Turbo S sway bars on a '85 NA, Good idea?

What do you guys think of putting turbo S sway bars on a early '85. I doesn't even have a stock rear sway bar. Is it even possible to mount a rear bar on an early '85 without cutting and welding?

Am I crazy?

Great Idea.

The rear just need the drop links and it will bolt right up. The front I believe will bolt up too, but I am pretty sure the connection to control arms is slightly different.

I put S2 bars on my 85.5, all I needed was the larger bushings which the seller provided, that car handles like a dream, but I also installed Koni's on the same day so I might be a wee bit biased there. They'll bolt up no problem, but like it was said, you do need the drop links for the rear.

+1 the control arm swaybar mount is different but you can modify the early bushing to fit the larger bar...this is a mod you will love for a low cost

I have put turbo sways on my '86 NA. So I have some bits left over from it, plus still need to pull them from the 85.5 parts car I have. Stock sways on it front and rear IIRC. PM me if you need anything else. For a couple of bits and pieces just pay shipping.

I put a turbo S sway on the front of my '87 944S and was amazed at the improvement!

I bought the whole bar including end links and the center drop links, so no extra parts were required.

I wanted to do this on my early 85 944 as well. when you guys say "drop links", what are those and what do you have to do with them to get the rear bar in?

they look like dogbones, the hold the ends of the rear swaybar to the suspension arms. the center of the swaybar is attached to the suspension body in the middle.

most of these cars came with them, take a peek at another and it will all make sense, you should already have the mounting holes for the drop links and bushings, they just bolt on. See Clarks link below

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/susp-05.htm

See that "dog bone" shaped "hanger" coming down? Thats the drop link and the bar attaches to that.

And here is the upper portion of the bar attaching to the car via the bushing.

Note that the Turbo S rear bar might be 16mm where the regular turbo rear bar is I believe 18mm... The turbo s front bar is bigger however.

This is an awesome upgrade done cheap, just make sure you get all the pieces off the donor car. Usually this can be rather easy and is not a problem to source.
