944 engine replacement options
Spun the #2 bearing on our race car -- considering options.
We've confirmed bearing failure, but still have good compression #'s.
Haven't pulled bottom end yet -- but engine is already out.
will a 968 short block mate to a '88 924S heads? (2v)
if we pick up a 968 engine and ecu, do we need a 968 MAS as well?
thanks,
Mike
fwiw -- we think our DME rev limiter didn't work
and possible overrevved engine.

I have a complete '89 2.7L engine for sale including wiring harness and DME for $1200 if your looking. I have to get it pulled out of the car but it should be available to ship in a week or so.

You have two options.
1) It is possible that you can get by with repairing the spun bearing. At a minimum you will need to new mains and rods. You could have damaged crank and rod. The crank can be replaced with used crank and you may need to the rod resized. If so it pretty much rebuild and you are back.
2)The motor could be damaged beyond repair (block damage) and you can source a replacement engine. $500 or $1000 should get you another complete engine.
I have spun 2 rod bearings over the years. Once took out the block (rod out the side) and the other just damaged the crank and was repaired. The head survived engine blow up just need to replace two bent valves on #2 cylinder.

we've confirmed compression on all cylinders, anyone know what compression
we should see -- we're hovering around 145 or so across the board.
curious if re-ringing would be in order.
so we have good heads, good pistons, and assume good cylinder walls.
We've pulled the engine -- dropped the pan -- #2 obvious.
haven't had time to dig in any further.
we're picking up another 944 whose engine was pulled -- so we've
got spare engine parts.
we've got the means to rebuild the engine completely
just time and money.
The 3.0L engine is interesting from the pure 100extra HP :-)
I've contacted Travis about his 2.7.
thanks,
Mike
