if you mean the early 5th gear (the .73 ratio) for low cruising revs, i have a complete early transmission with a busted differential that you can have for $50 so you'll have all the parts needed

Does it matter what year trans you or I have, or will all N/A 5th gears fit on all Turbo trans's?

Shouldn't matter, the early transmissions all came with that tall 5th gear.

Here's a quick layout I found in a search...
'82 - '87 NA ----Turbo

1st - 3.600 ---- 3.500
2nd - 2.125 ---- 2.059
3rd - 1.458 ---- 1.400
4th - 1.071 ---- 1.034
5th - 0.730 ---- 0.829
--------------------------------------
Final - 3.889 ---- 3.375

The 944 spec racers love the .829 ratio 5th and you can sell/trade that for .729 5th put money in your pocket.
