Hi.
I've just bought an 944 83-mod with automatic gear
and i wonder if anyone know how much work it would take to place a clutch in it (motor and gearbox isnt much problem to get) because i really want a manual gear. I bought it because it was dirt cheap
regards

Hi Lars, welcome
The conversion has been done (but not very often), sould not be that difficult.
You might not need the complete engine, just the complete fly-wheel / clutch / bell housing and everything further down the line from there.
Thus including trans axle, gear box, drive shafts (with CV) and shifter gear.
You also need pedal cluster & clutch cylinders with the liquid reservoir (combined with the brakes)
There has been a thread about 1 year ago about it, you may want to search the archives about it.

[quote]2. i want a turbo engine in it

That has been tried before, cheapest way out is to buy the turbo.
You wont get away with the standard tranny anymore, fixing points for the 951 tranny (late or 85.5 version) is differing, drive shafts wont fit, brakes will be VERY under-powered, suspention will not be up to par, ..., ..., ...
Also: the KLR is different and there is a lot more wiring to add.
There are upgrade kits, but the engine needs the forged rods (from an '86) and the factory turbo pistons for the lower compression.
This is no longer an simple swap, but will get time consuming and expensive.
