Cool 951 to 968 front conversion?

Relax! But entertain me for a while here… I have always been in love with the 968, to the point where I almost bought a new one back in 1993-4. Wife, work, etc did not allowed it. But the need/want has never gone away.

I now have the 951 that I am working on. The car will never be a concourse winner so no sense in having to keep it true to its forms (although you see me fixing and repairing every little detail).

I would love to have the front of a 968 in my car. Do we know of anyone in this site that has done a 944/951 to 968 FRONT conversion. I have seen those folks that have changed the rear of their cars to look like a 968. That is a more involving process.

What company in the US provides the parts? I know that the parts cannot be bolted on from a used 968…

Or this is just a dumb idea and I should just leave the car alone… and when money is no longer an issue (yeah right!) then just buy the real thing…

There used to be a company "Albert?" who made a 968 front (something to replace valence/bumper) for the 944 that looked really good. Really expensive though and they are overseas. It didn't change the lights or fenders or hood, but looked like a 968 nonetheless.

Also, there is a company who does just want you want, with the full up fenders and hood and all...

I can't remember their website. Van Zweden or something like that.

According ro what someone posted here some months back (maybe check the archives?), most of the underlying panels that the external body panels bolt to are different between the 944 and the 968... I don't know this from first-hand expereience, tho'.

ISTR that there's a German tuner who offers the conversion in bolt-on fiberglass, but don't recall the name, and I didn't bookmark the website.

Personally, I still like the 944na nose best... simple and clean, more minimalist styling. My retirement (less than 15 months!) plans still include maybe buying an na with a blown engine and doing a 968 drivetrain conversion, then selling my 968. This is down on a _long_ list of post-retirement stuff, so it may never happen, but I can dream.

Jim, all a matter of personal preference...

Although personal preference, I would have to argue that the 951/S2 front end is the nicest. A claim can be made that the 968 has a cleaner rear but when it comes to the front and fender flares the 951/S2 wins by a long shot. Still, the overall look of the smooth front end complimented by the aggressive rear can’t be touched.

German company Albert have 968 style front bumber which fits to 944.It needs a little bit work since it is designed for 944 n/a fenders. It uses 968 foglights & blinkers.
UK based Club Auto Sport has a coversion which changes 944 to 968.Same kind of kit is available from the Netherlands; Van Zweeden.

Try gt-racing.com. I believe they have all the parts in fiberglass or carbon fiber.

There is someone on the 968.net who bought a factory 968 turbo RS shell. He was going to transfer all of his parts from his 968 to the shell and then sell the shell. I think the car had less than 80,000 miles on it. I'm not sure where he was located.

IMO, this would be a far superior solution to trying to convert your 944 shell to a 968. That said, I'm not sure what kind of title/vin issues would be created by doing something like this.

they seem to have all the conversion pieces at a reasonable price. On the home page is a picture of a red 944 converted with some 968 panels, they are in England so for the price of a long distance call you can probably get advice from people who have experience with the conversion and avoid much more expensive headaches.

I would absolutely love to get a 968 and put a 951 front on it. That would look gorgious.

Better yet, just start out with a 951 and convert everything but the front, so that way you still have a fast car
