My feelings on 6000 mile oil changes on Mobil 1. The oil sure will make it 6000 miles and still protect the motor better than conventional oil, that is the good part. Bad part is not getting all the dirt and contaminants out of the motor every 3000 miles. Kinda like leaving stuff in your oil to grind up the engine faster. An extreme case that I remember. Working at a repair shop where a customer in a thunderbird would 'change' his oil by replacing the filter and adding another quart of Mobil 1. He did this every 3000 miles. You wouldnt believe how dirty that oil looked AFTER the oil change was done...

Hey tarHeel 944S (Ian),
Is 16 your age, the age of the car or maybe both? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Don't be offended please!
BTW, I love your interior... That would have been my first choice in colours.

I had my tensioner replaced at 94000 miles. The car was 12 years old at the time. The pad was grooved fairly deeply and the pad itself was a dark brown color so if you look at it as a ~$300 part that lasted as long as it did, then it isn't a bad deal. These cars are actually holding up well given their age.

Mine has been fine. It is now 79500 miles.
However this problem still managed to turn me red (<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=014110#000000" target="_blank">story</a>)

Mine looks OK (brown, slight groove). The car is only at 47K miles now but my $100 PCA certificate is going towards replacement of the whole deal. More for peace of mind than anything else.

'90 S2 68Kmiles... Original waterpump went at 67K. Spun the impeller from the shaft about 1/8miles from home(Very Lucky!)... Did belts, rollers, and pump. Almost ready to retension...
The belts and just the two tensioner rollers had been done by the dealer for the PO @ 39K (4yrs ago). The belts were in great shape but all of the tensioners and rollers spun a little too freely (Worn, dry bearings).
Other than... failed DME relay, blown original rubber-centered clutch, hood shocks, door light switches, and a few other minor probs. (Most of which I knew to expect from reading rennlist!) nothing too unexpected (YET!).
I LOVE THIS CAR! For less than the price of an anemic honda civic... YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT!
rennlist has been an awesome help in doing all this "maintenance" myself! Thanks rennlisters!

I bought mine with the tensioner failure. Ended up having to buy new cams but got them wholsale for 400 ea. I think I got the balance shaft belt too tight, It whines a little, but it is so fun to drive anywhere. I went and watched a autocross today and think I am going to try it. There was a guy there with his teenage daughter he had built her an s just to autocross so she could learn how to handle a car in the right setting. Pretty cool huh
