951 in flames, and a total loss....
Well two cars in NC going up on the same day, I would say that is odd, but I was not so lucky.
I pulled into my apt last night, and was just going int to check my mail and then there was a little bit of smoke, and then a lot of smoke and with a min it was a 10 foot bonfire. Needless to say I'm heart broken today....
here is the after math.

Just like November 14th 2001, I am again at a loss for words.
The best thing is that you were not in the car when it happened. It can be replaced. Sure, it won't be the same, but you can have another.
Talk with your insurance agent ASAP, get them out there and in person. Call PCA and get a local market value from them, and take no less than what they say. If you have recipts of new parts in excess of a grand, get them out and ready. The more prepared you are to sign it away, as hard as it may be, will get you more cash and an earlier start on the next one. IMHO, just let them take it away, as is. Grab what personal things you have left, and say goodbye. Parting it out just rubs salt in the wounds.
My thoughts and best wishes are with you.

My guess is that it was the fuel lines, it went up so fast and so hot that it is the only thing I can think of. And the real irony about this is I was just talking with Dave Miller the other day about how the fuel lines do run right over the headers. I guess I jinxed myself.
As far as insurance and this car, well it is being declared totaled, this car will never see the road again. The interior is one big pile of plasitic mush.
My draw back is, I have 15 K in the car, I know I won't get much of that out, but I want to try and slavage as much as possible. But I have no where to dissasemble the car.
Such is life, well not really and I really could use a beer.

Thank God you weren't in the car. Just kepp telling yourself "It's only a car". Hopefully you'll get a decent insurance settlement.
I've been thinking of selling the 944 to buy a 951, but now with you, Perry, and Ahmet, I'm getting a little freaked out.
I sincerely hope everything works out ok.

Mine was the main power lead to the starter. It grounded out on the block, heated enough to catch the insulation on fire, and then the main harness.
Mine burned for almost 5 minutes, and had a lot less damage. If it was fuel, it would have burned to the ground.
See the other post on preventing this.
Ian, with the amount of money you have into it, get every recipt, and do not settle until you are comfortable. If you buy it back (usually a grand), you can sell off parts, but I would not. It is very hard, and most likely you will only get a grand or so back. If the damage was less, I'd offer my help to bring it back to life.
