Mopar did it with their Air Grabber hoods back in the day. I think those were cable controlled from the cockpit.
I think it would be very unclean aerodynamically, but whatever floats your boat!

I too have a Red S2 and have been contemplating whether I should replace the filter. You say that you have removed the front panel from the airbox! I haven't actually seen the airbox or what it looks like inside yet, but I take it it's a flat panel filter as standard? Did you need to do anything else? (i.e. Won't the filter fall out without the lid on?) It's a same you haven't got a picture!

Nice work, but IMHO, our stock intake system is pretty good already.

Do you have any imperical data that shows an improvement, besdies "seat of pant dyno testing?"

My car has a similar setup to this. Only the pipe used isn't as "wavy" is that it just comes out horizontally and sits there with a K&N filter about that size. Wicked sound that you get from the intake on it now.

That air filter will get REALLY dirty though being right in the airstream like that, especially when it rains it gets sludged up with mud and stuff, so make sure you take the panel off and clean it once in a while. The last time I took mine off it was pretty nasty.

Nice work!

Well, instead of having it lift up, you can have it fold down. Then all you would need is at the bottom to be held in place and two springs on the sides that compress as the speed is increased, at worst the nose panel is going to compress the springs all the way and sit on them. You can even make little rubber stops for it to sit on that way when you are on the expressway it doesn't rub the nose wrong. I would love to see if anyone could or is going to do this. Never though about it before until now. The main trick would be how stiff do you want the springs, and since there location you can't just look at it when driving, so I am not quite sure how you see it unless you had a friend in front of you on the expressway.

It is a good question and I think Mike has a good solution to having to reinforce that piece. It would also require less mechanics and add less drag to the cars aerodynamics.
We could be on to something here.

Thanks for your guys compliments Yes I will have to keep clean more often I agree. I used ZIP ties to hold the stock filter on. Looks pretty decent. The only draw back to getting this really cool sound is at high RPM, but I tell yah it howls LOUD! If you just blip the throttle it makes an amazing gushing sound.

hmm no prob Travis! so... the head panel can be cut were it meets the hood and a plastic insert can be used to make it look pretty like on the GT2. What about a ram air intake right there? and a small solenoid to lock it on the "stock" position in case it rains!
ok I'll come back down now

Skip was saying the only way to get hydro lock is to drive in 3ft of water for 60miles, with the setup I have.

I was just thinking of drilling holes in the intake cover. That way I can hope to get some more noise, but not too much that it's obtrusive when your cruising on the motorway. I was perhaps thinking of investing in a spare cover though from the scrap yard first. So I can always put in back to normal.

You don't have to drill holes. The sound only comes when you really get on the throttle. Just Use ZIP ties to to hold the filter into place.
