If you don't suspect any problems, you may just need your idle to be factor set/re-set.

When i brought my 944 in for some service, the dealership adjusted the idle for me. They lowered it down to around 700 when the car is warm. Pretty much the same way your car is acting now. I've had no problems with it so far. It is alittle rougher at idle that low, but i guess is saves some gas.

if it bothers u, just tighten the throttle cable to whatever idle you want. if you tighten it to 1k rpms or above the car will never shudder when you let off the gas.

Only one problem with that: You'll be running with your throttle position sensor always open ( that little "click" when you open the throttle slightly) Will probably cause it to run rich, along with a host of other idle stabilizing problems. A+ though, for creative "jury-rigging" thinking. <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" />

What is the idle supposed to be for the car? Mine runs at about 1200 rpms at idle. It doesn't sound high, but I don't really know what it should be.

no problems with car, not that ive noticed atleast. it runs good an all, it does shudder when its cold and i let off the gas but other than that its not a problem. I just wanna adjust it IF it will cause a problem. When i drove to hershey on the 19th (about 9 hours cause we got lost in NY for a while) after all the driving at tolls it was even down to 600-650....thats what made me post this....could this be a problem or should i jsut leave it alone?

Alright, then my idle is obviously very high (Albeit stable). How do I adjust it properly?

Grrr.. this probably means I'll need new motor mounts.

bad motor mounts do NOT equal low idle. they cause SHAKING at idle.

*nods* But I've been noticing some vibrations at idle, so setting the idle lower will likely just amplify the effect.

Apologies for being unclear on this issue.

My idle is also on the low side (around 750) and the symptoms are the same as the original question - idle is even but low. It also goes lower the hotter it gets (starts at 900 or so then falls gradually).

Apparently you can reset the idle by bridging B & C on the Test Port and turning the Air Bypass Screw. I haven't yet had the chance to go play with this on my car but I didn't receive any response to a follow up note I sent relating to whether the new "idle speed" is remembered by the car (if so, I can't see "how" it does it ...).

Perhaps I should permanently bridge B & C and take the idle stabiliser out of the loop completely ... (?)

By the way, I have also realised that I need new motor mounts now - I can see the bonnet (hood?) vibrating at idle and we won't even mention what it's like when the A/C is on or the high speed fan(s)s kick in
