I went to give my 968 its first oil change since I have owned it, and WTF is the deal with the plates on the bottom? This car is like Fort Knox to get to the drain plug! Any suggestions to make it at least a little easier?

I'm not familiar with the 968's, but do you mean a bunch of under car body work?
If so my S2 has a couple big pieces. They don't get in the way of the dain plug, but I've had to take them off enough that now to secure them I just use big thick black zip ties. They hold fine if you use one in place of very screw or bolt.
Hope that helps.

Mike, welcome to Porsche Service-Engineering department! This clandestine group inside Porsche A.G. comes in late at night when no one's around and devises new and innovative ways of making you jump through all sorts hooops and contortions in order to work on your car. Please pray that you never ever have to replace the thermostat on your car
When you take those bolts off to remove the belly pans, go down to your Toyota dealer and pick up some similar bolts, but with built-in captured washers. These will allow you to put the bolt on the end of a socket and aim it upwards to push and re-install without worrying about the bolt falling into the socket. As it is now, you'll have to re-insert the Porsche bolts by hand. Good luck!

Danno, I tried this. The Toyota parts desk lady was very unhelpful and would not sell me anything without a part number or an exact fitment!
What do I ask for, besides "M5x1x20mm hex-head flat washer SEMS"?

No wonder Dave Strong's Porsche wanted to charge me $175.00 to change my oil! Yes, I am talking about the large plate with lots of bolts holding it on. How long does it take most of you?
