Post Carbon Kevlar Brake Pads

I had my brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced recently. They seemed to work fine under all conditions. Today however I was at highway speeds and I had to come on to them quickly and hard (stabbed them so to speak) and I felt a pulsating vibration that I hadn't noticed before. They seem to be good under all other conditions, even hard but continual braking.

What might be causing this? Could there be a problem with the seating of the new brake pads?

Does anyone know much about carbon kevlar pads? I was thinking of replacing my PBR metalmaster with them?

What type of braking characteristics do they have? I want an agressive stopping pad, but that do not need to be heated up before reaching efficiency. Does anyone have a supplier with good prices for these?

Thanks

I have the KFP Carbon Kevlar pads from Paragon. I like them because they tolerate track use well. They like a little heat to work well, but do work very well when heated. They don't seem to eat rotors, but do dust quite a bit. The cold bite isn't bad, I let the wife drive them unwarned. I do take them off in the winter here in the northern climates.

Hmm that was probably it.

I can feel the ABS kick on my turbo and it does not feel plesant on the pedal.

I thought about that, but I didn't feel that I had appllied that much pedal......I have invoked the ABS before (during a test drive) and it felt different.

I would be happy though if that was it........I'll have to try again on the drive home from work.

Dave, the carbon kevlar pads you bought from Paragon, do you recall what you paid?

I can't tell on their site if the the price is per wheel or per axle.

I tried the carbon pads on my 914-6 a few years ago and found that even with the 'street compound' they had to be extremely hot before they worked any better than standard pads.

Don't bother with them unless you are racing and getting things pretty hot.

Kevin, all of our pads are priced per axle.

FWIW, I also run them.

Good Luck!

Skip, thanks.

How do you find them compared to an oem type pad?

Much better, so far - not too much experience with them on my car. On a friends car (S2), they are nearly the HOG (Hand Of God). I ran metal masters previously, but they would fade on the track - still a great pad for street, ax, and light track duty.

I know cost is an issue, but there's a better choice for what seems to have your interests in mind. The New Pagid S (sport, RS4-2-1) is designed specifically for high performance street cars - high cold friction, low fade, low dust, low squeal. They are the compromise pad for those wanting more than any other "street" pad will offer, but without the quirkiness of full race pads.

Thanks Skip, I'll look into the Pagid S pads.

A question I have always wondered about, is if you are in the Pacific NW isn't Paragon in Texas??

Can I order my parts from the satellite office, and save on duty and brokerage fees!
