Don't worry too much about the opinion of a bartender.

I think he's full o' s**t. If he's talking about the type IV as in VW, the same varient as the 914, then I know he is. It's not OHC, and the cam is gear driven. The rest of his line sounds just as flaky. I know a LOT of mechanics,,none of whom are moonlighting as bartenders.

He's not a very good bartender either if he's arguing with you. Find a new bar, or stop talking to bartenders.

yeah, i agree with greg. Im 19 and ive been gettin sh*t ever since i was 16, which is when i got the 944. so i those kind of dudes are full of it cause there jealous. I usaully know what im talkin about, over the three years ive become an ok wrench: also i see them leave the argument and get in their ford taurus wagon with the baby sun deflector in the back seat window.
-come to think of it, when it comes to my car, the only peoples' advice i take, are right here in this forum!

Yeah I get into these pissing matches with old guys (I am 31, look younger though).

I dress nice so they probably think getting my hands dirty would be the last thing I'd do, but quite the contrary...my g/f's yell sometimes about me ruining a 'nice' shirt heh..

I think most of these guys don't really turn their own wrenches past oil changes and tune ups.

I have had a lot of cars and my very first (which started me) was the restoration with my dad of a 1966 Mustang GT...we took the whole car apart and my father and I replaced or refinished everything, even the bolts and screws. I usually just make a remark and leave them be. The worst is when they are trying to tell you things about the car you are currently driving or even jobs you just recently completed.

I thought this thread has vanished, but since it hasn't I'll reply with updates.
I go to the pub a lot, it's one of my and my friends friday night bordom solution. Not anymore. The guy was in fact not pulling my leg. He actually called his friend, who's also a mechanic, and his friend is as big of a retard as he is. It's ok though I found a different pub, I figured out what was wrong with my problems.
Also, I didn't go to him for advice. I can hold my own when it comes to type IV and 914s. And you're right, the only place I go to for advice is this forum, and the pelican parts forum. I'll have the car running soon and I'll drive by and show him who his real daddy is! Mkay I'll stop now ...
