OT: Good summer jobs?
#3
Fishey, I used to be in the amusement park business and I know that Paramount/Kings Island does seasonal hiring for maintenance personnel. If your computer knowledge extends to programmable logic controls (PLC) work or you are trainable in that area, you might try them. Most maitenance people only want full-time, year 'round work and they don't keep enough people around in the winter, so if you are just looking for summer work, that would be to your advantage.

I'm working at a golf course now, moving bags around, moving carts and cleaning clubs, etc. There are some early mornings, but I can make a ton of money in tips. On a good weekend afternoon I can come away with 80-100 extra dollars, on top of a pay check.
I probably could have gotten a job at a local Porsche garage, but I wouldn't have been able to work as much (40ish hours a week now), so I opted to try and make more money.
This probably doesn't help you much, but I thought I would share my experience.

Work at a nice carwash. It's outside, get to be around awesome cars, get HUGE tips and good hours because they can't be open at night or in the rain... My first summer job now is at one and I love it. I'm making more money than any of my friends could dream of... <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
Or definitely at a Golf Course like Conor suggested.

If you want to make money, you have to go where there is a lot of money being spent. If you work at a McDonalds were the average customer spend $4 on a meal, your paycheck is gonna reflect that. If you work at a hotel where the average customer earns upwards of $120,000 per year, your tips and paycheck will reflect that as well.
Find a posh hotel or restaurant or whatever to work at, as a server, doorman, whatever. The tips should be good, and they should pay you decently as well. If you decide to work at a hotel, keep your back to the wall and don't bend over.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> j/k
I work at a nice hotel and although it was meant to be a temporary job, I've been there for over a year and a half and it's already financed my Porsche vices.

Last summer I worked as a valet at some pretty nice restaurannt. I would make at least $17 a hour and would get cash at the end of the night. It paid really well for driving nice cars around the block to a parking garage.

Take the hottest, nastiest, dirtiest job you can find... one where you take the most crap possible from the boss, coworkers, and customers, for the least pay imaginable.
Do this for one summer. Then you will never have any trouble dredging up the motivation to stay in school & do well. Education doesn't always lead to success, but it's a better bet than most things except being born rich or marrying the boss's ugly daughter....
Of course, you still have to do the research to pick the _right_ education, in terms of what focus and where to go...
Jim, partly jokin' here.... uh, huh.. now, y'all figure out which part...8)

Once again, Jim has it. I'm trying to figure out some coding tricks on the Symbian platform this summer... so far I've spent 1½ weeks just surfing rennlist.
Last year it was the same except I also played some Quake. That time I was supposed to do some XML stuff...
Needless to say my motivation for going to lectures at the university has dropped to zero

A thought. There is an exotic/european car mechanic/used car dealer up in Springboro on SR48 next to the furniture outlet. Don't know what the pay is but the discouts and shop access would be kewl. And it's just right up the street. Just a thought.
