tranaxle / chassis brace ?
Anyone remember a thread about a brace between the transaxle to chassis ?
Supposedly to reduce lateral forces on the CV joints.
Didn't seem very difficult to do, but is it worthwhile ?
Tried "search" but didn't come up with much.
Also have a set of unused Weltmiester control arm bushings for early "steel"
arms, anyone intersted in them ?

if i ever owned a late car i would find a way to modify the trans crossmember to accept the early 944 trans mount as those are much sturdier IMO and wont let the trans sway...i reaaaaaaally wouldnt trust the late mount style.

I just read the old threads on this after breaking a CV joint, so I'll give you the cliffs notes:
-LOTS of vibration and noise with the brace on there
-most who tried the brace eventually took it off and went with a solid mount
-shouldn't be needed if you have a good stock mount and good late-style 951 axles
I just filled my stock mount with urethane, it's definitely a lot tighter with no noticable increase in vibration or noise. And shifting seems a little crisper now too.

I made this trans brace (modified from an e36 M3 subframe brace). It's solid mounted between the bottom of the trans and the chassis, and only transmits a slight amount of noise. IMHO, a little gear whine sounds good in a sports car. It is much quieter than my buddy's car that has a solid trans mount, and doesn't make rattling noises like his.
