Good Morning all,
Well I've done it, went out and bought a 87 944 na this weekend. Checked everything off the FAQ all documents good, new belts etc. Took her for a drive and everything looked spot on.
Then on the way home I notice that after about half an hour when she's all warmed up if I put the clutch in the oil pressure gauge starts fluctuating wildly between 1 and 4. At 3000rpm she's between 3 and 4.
Not being an expert has anyone else seen this? Could it be very bad? Any help greatly appreciated.

Not normal to be "fluctuating wildly", but not too much of a concern either. Most likely it's the pressure sender not being 100%. Possibly the oil-pressure relief valve is a bit cruddy.
The *normal* oil pressure indication on these cars is: 4-5 bar steady during starting (cold), cruising, and accelerating... 3-4 bar steady while idling and warm/hot. The thinner the oil, the lower the pressure. I use Redline 10W30 and get 4.5 bar cruising, and 2.5 bar idle... but I run relatively low weight oil... to improve HP and response. 10W40 or 15/20W50 is more the norm.
CONGRATS on your purchase - and, welcome to Rennlist!
Good Luck!

I have an '86 na with the same problem. The "listers" diagnosed the problem as most likely being the sending unit. Not that I advocate not maintaining you car, but I have lived with the problem for almost two years now without a hitch.
