I also would opt for the F40. But only if I could have a 78' 930 as well.

So Micheal , you wern't that impressed with the 959? What are you , insane!!!
I was lucky enough to know a guy who was a customer at the garage I worked at who had a 959 and he took me for a spin in it one day. O.K. the acceleration below 4000rpm is nothing to write home about , but when the second turbo cuts in above 4000rpm , the acceleration was what I could only describe as savage!! It literally took my breathe away. I later heard rumours that the car was one of the 15 that the factory produced that had 550bhp. This could explain why the one you drove felt a little 'sluggish'.
Are you sure your mechanic didnt put a block under the accelerator to stop you getting full throttle? I know I would if I was lending someone my 959!!

I just uploaded a magazine article from about 5 years ago comparing the 993 TurboS vs. the 959. Look for '959 vs. 993-TurboS om/951_racerx" target="_blank">951 Racer X website.</a>

Well before the comparison articles in Excellence last year, the 959 had been eclipsed. Not outright mind you, but the TurboS outcornered and outbraked the 959 significantly. And it out-accelerated the 959 on roll-on tests.

Since weve got on the exotic car topic, I used to work at a dealership here in the east coast called Chambers Motorcars. Herb Chambers is the owner, and I guess it is the largest chain on the east coast. Anyway, This guy comes all the way to Boston from Conn. every day for work. Well, on days he doesent feel like driving his MclarenF1 to work, the guy has a private black helicopter he lands right on the parking garage roof! I could never really decide which I liked seeing more. Damb it must feel good to be rich..............

There was a running report a little while ago in 911 & Porsche World from a guy in the UK who owns a 959. He had to have some work done to cure a misfire after using the car at a track day. It needed a new dizzy cap, and I can't remember the cost now but it was something like £1000 parts and labour to have the cap replaced. It was good to see someone using a car like this for it's intended purpose, ie driving very quickly!

The 959 vs Turbo S comparison makes you realise just how far things have progressed, when a 'standard' production car can outperform what was absolute state of the art ten years earlier.

I love the 959 sound sample on the opening section of NFS Porsche Unleashed.

Tifosiman, that is a cute website. Regarding the bikes, are you all actually manufacturing them are is someone like Litespeed building them to spec for you? In either case, they look pretty nice.

Manning,

Thanks! They are ours. Litespeed is actually a direct competitor of ours (and a target of ours). They have been around in the market forever, we are kinda "the new kid on the block". We've been around 5 years now. Our sales in 2001 doubled compared to our sales in 2000, and we were one of very few bike businesses that had any growth in 2001 (most had a horrible year and many went under). This year looks to be even stronger, as our first quarter sales blew 2001 away....

Let me know if any of you fellow Porsche-addicts are in the market for a titanium bike, I'll help you out.
