OT- Can you do this?

I tell you. Those things have the opposite effect of what their intended to.
I always speed up with a sh*t eatin' grin ever time I see one.
Don't think I'll ever get one that high, though. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Whenever I find one of those where traffic allows, I slow down about fifty to a hundred yards in front of it, then shift down and hammer it... watch the numbers wind up like a freakin' pinball machine!!!!

When I visited South Africa last summer (winter there, blah!) they had something similar. Automatic speed traps. Takes your picture and you get a nice little ticket in the mail. Like the cameras at stop lights we have here.
Everyone knows where they are, so its not that bad. At a certain stretch of road everyone suddenly slows down, then its back to speeding.
Is there some legal reason why we don't see those here, or maybe some states do have them?

In Boulder we have a van that has an automatic speed camera system built into it. They usually use it in school zones and residential areas, and send it out after someone complains that people are speeding through their neighborhood. There is an operator inside the van that monitors the system and acts as some sort of witness to the act. We have photo red light cameras on a few key intersections where there have been fatalities.
We also have a traffic light or two that are connected to a speed sensor, they turn red if you go too fast down a quiet street. They do not control an intersection, just stop speeding cars.
This is pretty irritating, as most people go 8-10 mph over the posted limit naturally.
I'm not happy with these systems in general but thankfully have not gotten a ticket yet. I don't speed much in town and never run red lights.

Jim, you think that is fun, you should see it wind up in kilometers. I still get a kick out of seeing those high numbers. I think my pychological side can't keep up with it so it really makes you think you are really flyin'!

A friend of mine tried throwing baseballs at one but he found it wouldnt clock it unless it was comming right at it. Damn thing had so many dents in it when he got done. He said it didnt work well anyway and stoped after about 25 throws. Personaly I thought he was full of **** untill I saw the thing the next day... Ahhh, to be young again... or younger I guess I should say.

I was heading to Nashville several months ago, and went through a construction zone at about 1am. Speed limit was 50, I had cruise set at 65. As I came around a bend, I saw one of the radar signs display 66mph, then 3 quick flashes.
A month later, I got a ticket in the mail for 66 in a 50 construction zone. $565 ticket, 4 points. Beware, there are cameras on some of them, and at 165mph, the police will deliver the ticket personally, and you will work off the debt in jail!

there are places that sell sheilds that can be placed over your license plate that are like the "privacy screens" on some library and public computers. when viewed straight-on, it is transparent. when viewed from an angle, it becomes opaque. so a cop behind you can read your plate and doesn't trip, but a camera off to the side of the road will not be able to identify your car.
