I believe this falls under the "all show, no go" category. At least compared with the 935 it is emulating.

Don't mean to derail your thread any further, but I couldn't help myself.

Being your son, I share your lust for a hot Italian, but for a different model.

I'll just leave this ebay link right here...
They depreciate too, ya know?!

I'm with the 308 group. I don't care how fast it is. (I'ts super slow compared to some of my past cars) Its about how it makes you feel. That is why I want one. Nothing like mentioning casually that your summer car is a Ferrari either!

Only thing holding me back is where the heck do I get it repaired? I have heard from reliable sources that a clutch job makes our 944's seem like a bargain. Buying an old exotic sports car is not a bang for your buck kind of investment.

If the right opportunity came, I'd be pretty tempted to dive in headfirst!

Hey guys, I am happy to chime in here. I presently have a handful of cars, including a 1984 308 GTS QV and a 1988 944 Turbo S. They are 2 completely different cars. Different engines, drivetrain layouts ect. I've owned my 308 for 11 years and absolutely loved every minute. Its an extremely reliable car. I guess what I like most about the 308 is how it looks and sounds. Sounds like a pack of wild Ducatis going down the road. I have a Tubi and catalytic delete on it, sounds glorious. My 2 year old son loves the Ferrari. I love it when I get in the Ferrari and it smells like my Louis Vuitton bag, lots of switches and gauges in the cockpit. The car came optioned with metallic paint, Euro deep front airdam and the 16 inch wheels. The 308 is fast, but its got more bark than bite. The 951 would obliterate the Ferrari in 90% of all performance aspects. But speed is not why I own the 308. Its such a charming little car. My car is one of 24 made in metallic black. It does get a lot of looks but I can tell you that **** gets old quick. If I want to go fast and have some fun, the 951 is a perfect car. If I want to take my son or wife for a cruise with the GTS top and bask in the sound, the 308 is the stuff of legends. All Enzo era V8s are going up in value. I am a die hard lover of all things 944 Turbo. I love them. I think they are collectible cars especially the Turbo S cars. Here is a pic of my 308.

Around 10 years ago, I had a 911SC and my friend to one up me, bought a 308. His was not a pristine car as it had ~25k miles on it. My 911 had ~110k on it. I paid 11k, he paid 22k. Within the first 6 months, he spent another 10k on maint and small repairs. I drove mine for 4 years, put over 30k miles on it. My overall cost of ownership between maint, repairs, tires, sales price cost me $1400. He never made it to 30k miles and sold it. He would not tell me what he got for it. On a side note, he craved the attention it got him, so it was all worthwhile.

well, the motor has to come out every four years for timing belts anyway, so you'd do it then. not kidding.

and the parts are insane. engine-out for belts is over $5k, clutch is $6k from invoices we have here.

Honestly I love older sports cars because they are not perfectly fast... This makes them fun to drive at all speeds!

I don't think we can really compare these cars.. Pure Performance is not a great judgment of "True Awesomeness" -There are Tuner Honda Civics that do 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds... But nobody here wants that car...

Also a car that goes 0-100mph in 2nd gear is just going to get me in Jail way faster... (My brother has a 76' Triumph Spitfire that is Not Fast,,, But it is Amazingly fun to Drive!!)

I like 308/328s' because they are "affordable", very fast, sound great, and are really Beautiful inside and out.. I Love Ferrari Interiors!!

Closing Statement:
The 944 turbo can accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds... However by then the Ferrari will already have made an attractive women's clothes fall off !!!

The engines didn't have to come out for timing belt replacements on any 308/328 I have owned. The 348/355 models are ones that involve engine-out service. My major maintenance service cost itself has been around $3K. I change the timing belts every five years (which was the original interval, if not every 30K miles) , although there is bulletin which has been debated in Ferrari sites about doing belts every three years.

I don't have experience with Ferrari clutch replacements, as I have never had to get them done.

I have averaged $1K per year in F car maintenance expenses.

Out of curiosity, what is the difference in insurance costs for the 951 vs. 328?

This is the big difference, and the reason most people buy those cars.

all the Ferrari interiors from the 308 to the F-355 look totally "kit car."

the 360 Modena has the first of the modern interiors imo.

i love the *** of the 355. but very little else about that and every other Ferrari built before the 360.

For me, 944 = $600 per year; 328 = $302 per year.
