I seem to have an oil leak coming from the rear of the lower balance shaft housing. Is there an O-ring on the back of this housing that could be leaking, or just the housing itself? Any ideas?

There's a circular plug with an O-ring on the back of both balance shaft housings. Mine is leaking slightly, too. The work involved in getting to it will be a bear.

The housing is sealed to the crankcase with an "o" ring. To get to it you'll have to remove the balance shaft pulley, which means you must remove the balance shaft belt. I had to remove the belt cover housing, which means you have to remove the rest of the pulleys and rollers and the camshaft belt along with the camshaft cover. And you must have the 9201 tool to properly re-tension the belts.
So if you plan to go there, get ready for a couple of days work. You might as well replace the seals and the sleeves on both balance shafts while you're there along with new belts and rollers, too.
This is a lot of trouble, so if the leak isn't too bad, just get a pan to catch the drip so that the garage floor stays clean and wait until you need to replace the belts.
