The new issue of Pano (got it last night) mentions that the internal designation for the Cayenne is "E-1".

Hehe, I was having this same conversation with someone last night! If the Cayenne is known as the E-1, does this mean that Porsche will be moving away from the 9xx designations?

Considering that the 986 is marketed only as the Boxster, the 996 is still called 911 and is often refered to as the Carrera for marketing purposes, and the SUV has been called only Cayenne, I'd venture a guess that Porsche is switching to names for their cars. Anyone heard a number for the Carrera GT yet?

Why they didn't just stick with "911" for all forms of that body, I'll never know. Names for cars should be left to the Italians, and Chevy!
