if no there is no female allen slot on top to hold the strut, then you need a spring compressor and a cordless impact , there is no other way to do this while your at the junkyard,

I finally got ahold of a set of 86T spindles and they are definitely the red headed stepchild of these cars..... Early bearings/spindle shafts but late offset strut housing to spindle interface dimensions.....

I was able to use these same adapter dimensions to fit the 86T spindles/hubs on the Early strut cartridges with the screw caps..... I can say that I have modded them all now and the 86T Hubs are weak, I see why racers have cracked them.....poor Porsche reverse engineering IMO to get some bigger calipers on.....

yeah i had to do the same thing, use vise grips to hold the shaft while using a socket wrench on the top bolt make sure to tighten the spring clamps just enough to keep the spring from expanding any more than it is at the point when you removed it from the vehicle

I used an oxygen sensor wrench on mine to get it apart. Pep Boys actually just lent it to me. It fits right on the strut nut, then a 13mm ( I think) socket on the smaller nut and I was done.

The 86 Turbo has early offset suspension. So shouldn't the struts bolt up as long as it was from an 86 and below car?

I'm not really a racer so I don't think my hubs will be cracking.

"""""So shouldn't the struts bolt up as long as it was from an 86 and below car?"""""

No, the 86T spindles have the same smaller bearings as the Early hubs, but they also have late 63mm strut bolt spreadwidths AND the thinner 18mm spindle/strut interface width (same as all 87-up spindles). Early spindles (83-85.5) have 20mm width at the strut interface.. All Porsche did was take an early spindle and stick 94mm Turbo caliper ears on it and make a shorter offset hub to fit calipers they had on the shelf. The 86T hubs are weaker than the Early hubs with bigger webbing.

86T hub is 2nd from the left....half the webbing strength is gone compared to the Early hub (3rd from left)
