Post Maguiars 3 Step Waxing Process

I'm getting ready to wax my "new" 944 and am planning to use Maguiars 3 Step products:

Step 1 - Cleaner
Step 2 - Polish
Step 3 - Wax

I have 2 questions:

My paint is in pretty good shape so I was going to skip step 1 because I know the cleaner is actually removing some paint...is that OK or should you always clean before you polish?

I have noticed a couple spots that may require the cleaner...can I spot clean it, but then polish everything or if I use the cleaner at all should I clean it everywhere?

Enjoy the spring...it's 70 in Milwaukee today!

I used all 3, with a buffer. Light on the polish, heavy on the wax. I also use a Eagle 1 Wet final coat, due to the teflon additives.

All I can say is, I love the results.

You might want to check out www.carcareonline.com they have some pretty good and funny tips about products and proceedures. I for one didn't know why my dark color sort of fogged a bit with a final wax, turns out German paint doesn't really like polymers as well as good carnauba, and I tried the P21S concours wax,no fog,no dust, and no smears on the vinyl or black stuff, just like they said. P.S.,everone has their own system, but you can't beat 3-M Imperial Hand glaze for cleaning, while polish is mostly chemicals. Luck,Jim H

A second vote for 3M Imperial Hand Glaze & carnuba wax. I just posted a thread about this a few days ago...I used Body Magic Medium Compound first (my paint was extremely dull and sometimes off-color), then I used the Imperial Glaze, then Meguiars Paste wax that comes in a blue can...I did it all by hand and it was pretty miserable, but good lord the thing looks like a new car. I'm very happy. If I were you, I'd do the cleaner (? is this like a medium compound) for the not-so-great parts, then polish and wax everything after that.

Remember to have lots of clean cotton rags (old t-shirts rule), and you might want to pick up a bottle of Meguiars Quick Detailer (<$10) or some similar product. I've got a spray bottle of it and a clean rag in a plastic bag in one cubby hole, and a bottle of Windex and another clean rag in a bag in the other. It's very heartwarming. Now when I'm greeted by bird **** on my hood/rear deck I can quickly, calmly, and happily wipe it off to a clean car again.

Cool

You just cant beat cotton baby diapers for detailing. As I have two daughters that no longer need daipers I've recycled into cleaning/polishing rags. The work great and ultra soft and when they need to be replaced are pretty cheap!

Hey elf89,I thought my paint was in good condition also, but a friend told me about the Meguirs website. So I went to the site and they have a feature where you can tell them the make, year and overall condition of the paint and they tell you what they recommend for the vehicle and climate in your area.It was recommended to use the #1,#2 and then the Gold Liquid wax.I could not believe the results, fantastic!!!This just after 1 application. They recommend to use #1 aprox. 4 times a year,#2 aprox. 6-8 times a year and the wax 10-12 times a year. The only thing I am going to add to this is a clay bar treatment a couple of times a year,I have heard these work good also.Happy waxing.

Hey Mike,
Can you pass some of those diapers along to me?
Wait...are those previously used diapers??

Maybe I'll pass. Actually, have a good supply, myself and they work great. After towel drying the car, I'll go over the whole thing again with a diaper, and it really brings out the shine!
