Question Size of Socket to change Thermo-Fan Switch?

Could someone tell me what size the socket needed to change out the fan switch? I think it was something like 30 or 31, but I can't remember.

Also, the plug that goes into it - does it pull right off or is it one of those plugs I have to squeeze together and then pull?

thanks,
sm

I just changed my switch out. I didn't have the correct metric size deep well socket so I used a deep well 1 1/8 and it worked. I believe a 30mm would do the trick. As for the connections, on my 1984 944 NA, the two wires simply pull off and push back on. I hope you bought the lower temp switch.

I believe it was a 30mm. I can check this evening if you want.

Performance Products sells one for around $20
Why not just use a crescent wrench? It works excellent, I just replaced my radiator last night, no more leaks $120

A 29mm deep-well allows you to replace the switch (from below) without removing the rad fans (or anything else). At least it did on my car.

The local cheap-o auto parts chain sells a $9 version as a "front axle nut" tool for a nameless front-drive application. The 1 1/8" sockets I found wouldn't fit the new switch.

The female-side spade connectors just pull right off.

Careful with those plastic threads...

It is a 29mm deep socket, just checked my tool box. I was able to replace mine from the top, the plug just pulls off, no sqeezing needed. Some of the VWs fan switches also fit the car, check with local parts stores.
