The clutch shop knew about the 2-step process and did it, but I wonder if the actual FW disc surface has some waviness in it. This is a brake and clutch only shop, never had anything but excellent work from them, and they do all the big trucks with stepped/dual mass flywheels in town. Also if the FW surface is significantly roiugher than the PP surface, I guess they could set up some unevenness. I damn sure do not want to re-do the job!!!

I used this fabricated ford bronco clutch with resurfaced fW, PP and grade A used TO bearing. Felt perfect from the start and still feels like new after thousands of miles. Even did some burnouts with it to test it under full stress. Had about $160 in entire clutch project. On the other hand we have a different 944 that the PO spent $1800 on a clutch job a few years back and it vibrates on release.

I can tell you that I love mine! When I got it, I looked for brands and the only brand name on it was on the actual friction material "Raybestos" so I am not sure if the disc is 100% raybestos, or if the material is, etc. I know they make good brakes and such.

Mine is mostly broken in now, smooth as butter, wonderful engagement. I am loving it. Huge improvement over the oem disc.

Did yours require a break-in? i.e., chattering at first?

Most definitely chattered at first, and was pretty grabby. After about 500ish miles it's quite pleasant.

That's encouraging; after a drive yesterday, it was like a switch was thrown, it seemed to completely stop chattering. Time will tell!

Yeah, just gotta be nice to it for a little while. If you don't slip the clutch /much/ (depending on how you engage) i noticed that VERY little slipping will cause some chatter. Normal slipping seems smooth now. But considering how much clamping it does and how solid it seems, I can see how they may chatter with minor slipping, especially with new flywheel and PP surfaces. Aside from that, it's a dream to drive now. And with the new TT bearings it's like a new car.

Both clutch jobs I've done on 944's resulted in more noise from the TT... probably because both involved changing from rubber to spring disc.

The sprung disc only made more noise for me upon engagement/clamping. Aside from that the torque tube should be perfectly quiet. Although because the tube would be quieter you would notice sound resonating from the clutch area or transmission and vibrations. I know that I definitely hear that stuff more now.
