There is nothing particularly damaging to your car at RallyCross. If a little attention is paid to extra rough spots on the course it should be no worse than driving on Michigan roads.

I'll be back with some pictires of my car and some of my Porsche friends that have used their P-cars at rallies, RallyCrosses and ice runs around here.

Get out there and have some serious fun!

OK - I found some shots of Herbie at the Detroit Region SCCA Triathlon from 2008. Bradley Brownell (now in Atlanta) took the shots.

Our Triathlon is a Solo, RallyCross and Road Rally all on the same day. Herbie, and team, took first in Stock Rear and second overall (behind a Subaru WRX in PA).

Wow very cool to see some p-cars doing rallycross.

How do they do in snow events? Was he using snow tires or just all-seasons?

This seems like a good opportunity to gain some more car control and use it on dry pavement come April.

In both of those pics, I was running Blizzaks. They made a world of difference. I think I did 3 winter rallycrosses, plus I got to play around in the super-special stage at the 2009 Sno*Drift stage rally. The Ice out on Saginaw bay didn't cooperate that winter, so I didn't get a chance to do any ice runs.

Rallycross is a fantastic and fun way to really learn car control and how to react quickly and instinctively to what it does. I know that since Iv'e been doing those, I get a much better feel for what the car is doing on the track. Iv'e done some autocrosses as well, and it really doesn't compare.

I used Vredestein Nord-Tracs, but any good winter tire is going to be better than any "no-season" tire. The Firestone Winterforce tire is very popular in our area for RallyCross. It is reasonably durable and is reasonably priced.

Other options would be to use a dedicated rally tire...

...though not for winter use.

I have heard from rally-x guys that is trashes the belly of your car and your alignment. The snow one looks fun as I have done ice racing too. But the Rally-X looks like it would be way to hard on my car for me to do it. But hey, if it floats your boat then go for it and post some pictures!

Thumbs up

Yea I say SnowRallyCross would be a blast!!!

I lived in upstate NY my whole life, until I moved to DC/Maryland last year. I moved to escape the snow, and use my 944 as a daily driver all year round..

Well to my surprise MD/DC got 4 feet of Snow last Winter!!! Long-Story-Short I SnowRallyCrossed everyday from Baltimore to DC, and the car was awesome in the snow!! With the transmission weight on the rear axle, i never had a traction problem. Sliding around corners was a blast! The car is limited only by it's ride height of course.

I feel it would actually be less wear, and tear than Dry Autocross, due to the reduced friction...

Go For It!

Here a picture of my 944's "SnowHawk" in Baltimore last year...

Rallycross is a blast! Obviously, my Cup car is not suitable, but my daily driver is!

This was an event in Columbus a month or two ago. The course were very rough, and I was the only rear wheel drive car there. Obviously, all the hopped up Subaru's (most running on special rally tires) kicked my ***.

But who cares, it was a blast.

(Let's see how long these photos last before a moderator takes them down for not being a Porsche.)

Just put a couple coats of wax on the car and go for it.

^Good idea I didn't even think of that.

I'm gonna try and go to a self service car wash right after and spray down the under carriage.
