Danno get yer holesaw (losing weight)
Hey guys, in the interest of losing weight (and Danno, I know YOU're interested in losing weight)(from the car ) - have you seen the supercharged 924 in 911 & Porsche World? I'm wondering how many holes you can put in the sheetmetal before it begins to be strength-compromised? A bunch, I'd bet.
I'm thinking one could swiss-cheese the interior of the doors(as with the aforementioned 924), the rear bumper (including under the pads), side walls in back seat area, around the perimeter of the sunroof frame perhaps, etc., etc. It would seem that most of the holes could be hidden by the interior trim panels... Think it could amount to any real weight reduction?

Hmmm, I'll have to run out and get that article to see what they're talking about. I know Jay, my OTC partner, had done some serious cutting of his 924's interior to lose weight. He didn't just swiss-cheese the interior panels, he cut them off completely!
I don't think I've gotten to that last desperate step yet. There's still plenty of parts I can replace and upgrade with lighter ones, like getting carbon-fibre hood, fenders & doors. Got some race seats coming in next week. Maybe I'll install that carbon-fibre toilet seat for the passenger just for fun since the rules don't disallow it!
P.S. I've actually lost 12lbs off my fat belly too by riding my bike 2-3 hours a day. Gotta get in shape for the OTC!
