WOW, you guys seem pretty cool about helping fellow Porsche owners.

I just got my tax return and my 87' 944 n/a has been sitting for almost 3 years. I have done some maintenance. Electrical problems are my downfall, and lose of power after running for a while. I was told the Clutch Slave Cylinder needed to be replaced (already bought Slave Cylinder). I'm not as much of a grease monkey as i wish i was or else I would be driving it right now.

PLEASE HELP ME!!
BTW, I live in the Houston Area too.

That weekend is good for me. At least I'm not scheduled to be on call then. I was planning on taking my boat out, but I had no definite plans yet.

I'll try to help. Let us know where. Better yet, go to Keith's house this Saturday for his Rennlist BBQ and we can organise this. (See admin sticky at the top of the forum page).

Hey Kuma, you too. Go to Keith's house. Plan repairs. Bemoan maintenance issues with people who speak your language. Eat BBQ. Sound good?
See you there.

Hey guys,
Well I'm currently doing my check list of parts I need, tools I need, etc. My question for now is which is the best place to order parts from. So far I'm looking at Paragon or 944Racing.com. Does anyone sell all the seals, belts and rollers in one package? Thanks.

Pete,
Yep. Still doing the belt/roller/seal work. Still scheduled for next weekend also, May 31/June 1. I've received all the parts this week from Paragon. This Saturday I'm going to start the initial work of removing parts to get to the seals and belts. This should save us alot of time whenever you guys come out. In the meantime, I'll probably try to rebuild my pwr steering rack. Yep, that's leaking too. But in the next few days, I'll be posting my progress and also directions to my house for next weekend so we can lots and lots of fun tearing into my engine.

Update on work progress...
So this past weekend I started my front engine reseal and belt change. Things were going smoothly, located TDC, removed all parts in the way of the seals and belts, etc but had to stop short of applying the flywheel lock, because I didn't have one. But luckily, talked with Pete Laches and hes got one along with a couple of other quirky tools I'll need to complete the job. And he's gracious enough to let me borrow them. Thanks Pete.

So for this weekend, May 31...
Pete - do you know if you'll be able to make it on Saturday? Otherwise, we can arrange a meeting spot so I can pick up the flywheel lock, spanner and krikit tool from you.

For others interested in helping or learning at the same time I am, my door is open. I'll be starting back up on Saturday morning (May 31)probably about 9-10 AM.

If you plan on coming, email me and I'll send you directions to my house.

I can't promise I will be there. My wife is going out of town for the weekend, and I have yet to find a place to dump, er I mean find someone to watch the kids.
I am going to Houston tomorrow to drop the wife off, may be able to drop the tools then. Would rather you have them and not hope I show. You can return upon completion of the job. I really want to help, and I need to check my belt tension but won't really know for sure until Friday night.

Ross:
Here is the deal. I am going to be at BUSH airport at approx 1030 tomorrow morning. From there I can meet you wherecer it is convenient. I think it will be best if I call you when I am done at the airport and we can work something from there. I think I can be in your neck of the woods at lunchtime. How does that sound? Pete

Ross,
I've been out of town and just got your message. Glad to see you found the tools you needed. Unfortunately I have to go back out of town again this weekend so you guys will have to have all the fun without me.

Ahhh!!!, just read the Urgent post. Sorry Pete, I'm sure you're probably back in Beaumont now. Got your email that you forgot my number. Don't you hate when stuff like that happens. Well, I called your number and left a message to arrange a pick up tomorrow. I'll call you again tonight to figure out a time and place.

Good seeing you today, hopefully the tools will help. Have fun tomorrow, and if the "kid situation" is taken care of, I will be there.
Who else is going to be there? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks again Pete for the tools <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" /> . It was good talking with you for a bit this afternoon. When I return the tools, we'll have to get a bite to eat and share pcar stories. I'm heading to the hardware store after work today to get an extension bar. Might have to pick up an industrial sized garage fan since I read its supposed to reach 100 this weekend around here. This is going to be a brutal summer in TX.

Here is a link I mentioned that shows the use of the Optibelt tensioning tool. Good (large) photos of the tool in use.
