PS theres also the great Bonham story of him just buying a Jensen Interceptor (I think), in LA also. Cops pulled him over for going ludicrous speed.

By the time the cops got up to the car Bonham already had the hood oponed and was going "Can you believe how fast this car is, huge V-8.. etc etc etc"

The cops eventually fell to his enthusiasim and let him go with a promise to keep it down.

Actually, I had a pretty good time today! Started with a neighbor sneaking out his vintage 911, and waving at me while I was preparing my car to drive.

I then arrived at McKenna Porsche, off of Firestone and the 605 in Norwalk, to go to their parts department. Anyone who has seen pics of my car (check Kijo Thread), there's a huge spot of paint missing on my hood.

So, I park it in front, and they sell Audi and VW, and I went in. I asked where there parts dept. was; the lady started to tell me straight back, then asked me what kind of car? She said oh, no, you have to go to the new building across the driveway.

I hadn't realized that they built a new wing just for Porsches! So I go over there; guy, Dan, remembered me from my phone call yesterday, and had the key ready to be cut. Mine is all warped, and I thought I'd have one master key made, then the rest cheapies.

He comes back, and asks me to try the key. Unfortunately, though the key worked in the doors, only one way in the ignition. I took it back to him, and he compared the keys; the computer overcut one side, though the original looked fine. I asked him if they could just cut the good side on both, and he smiled, and said that was a great idea, but they were out of blanks. So he re-ordered it for me, and gave me his card. He'll call me when it comes in.

While I was waiting a gentleman came in, with a sad look on his face. I asked him what was wrong, and he told me his Boxster was in an accident last year, and he's been restoring it. He was unhappy with the prices at other places, and after frustrating him, he finally came to the dealership. I gave him Rennlist URL to him, and told him he should come online and say hi, and ask questions. He was pretty happy, and thanked me.

Anyway, they had a beautiful 356 in a light yellow on the showroom floor, along with the usual new Porsches.

I had a run-in with this dealership 4 years ago, when my boyfriend's Tercel's engine ceased up, and he was able to coast it into their parking lot. Even though they were not a Toyota dealer, they came up with what it would cost to replace the engine with a new one, and are the ones that suggested that we drop in a used one from Japan ourselves.

When I have the money to consider buying a Gemballa biturbo, I would seriously think of them.

They have been nice regardless of how we dressed, and what kind of cars we drove. Of course, that's probably why they have built two new buildings, with their good service in both the parts and sales departments.

Sid, the article I read had that as a 455 Super Duty Trans Am in 1971. I don't remember where I read the article-so both those stories might be a little gray.

My best friend in Fl was a CFO for a computer software company that just sold to Intuit. She's now a millionaire. She walked into a Lexus dealership in her ratiest clothes and wrote a check for $65K for a Lexus SC430. You can't judge a book by its cover. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I had a similar thing happen to me at a Porsche dealer about 6 months ago (Im 24 BTW). I walked into the place to get an oil drain seal for the Carrera and an oil filter for the 951 (had both at the time).

A salesman was escorting a gentlemen around the parts area looking at hats and shirts - the guy had just bought a 996 and was obviously thrilled to death - had to get some authentic Porsche wear to compliment his "lifestyle."

Now, youve got to picture me standing there in ripped jeans and a paint stained sweatshirt (was doing yardwork in the morning) waiting on about $10 worth of parts and here's this guy who just spent $80K on a new Porsche waiting in line behind me.

The salesman and he were talking, and apparently the guy behind the parts counter couldnt find the oil filter for the 951 and it was taking some time.

During the course of the conversation I overheard the salesman apologizing that my part was taking so long to find in a not so "nice" manner. He sarcasticly remarked "One this... gentlemen... is finished and out of the way, we can get you situated."

Furious at the treatment, and not one to miss a good verbal exchange, I turned and asked the new owner what he bought. With a smile as wide as the grand cannon he proceeds to tell me that he just bought a new Carrera, he is obviously excited - but the salesman is visabily upset that a "commoner" in *gasp* JEANS is speaking with his walking commission.

My response? "Fantastic, you'll love it. Ive got two of them at home."

The "chit..." look from the saleman was priceless. Now, of course I didnt mention that the two cars were an 88 911 and an 87 951, but all the same, the salesman learned a valuable lesson - You never know.

If nothing else, I had a chuckle on the way home.

FWIW, I've had nothing but great experiences buying parts from Sunset Porsche + Audi out in Oregon. Jeff Clark (parts sales) is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable (Sunset advertises in Excellence/Pano as selling parts at dealer cost + 15% S&H).

Well nothing quite as exciting as Stuttgart 951's story but sure loved his.. Today I finally went in to the local Porsche dealer to order a new key for my car. Called them yesterday and talked to a fellow that researched the availability of getting a new key based on the VIN number of an old 83 944. He caled me back promptly this morning and told me "no problem" just bring in your regristration to prove owner ship and we can do it. So I did, Was treated very nicely at the parts counter, remebered me by name an chatted for a bit. Was pleasntly pleased with the treatment for my meager purchase. WOW alot of new 911's ,for lack of better discription, and Cayane's there. Nice but 80+k, too rich for my blood at this time. When I was looking for the parts department, walked thru the show room, wasn't approached but everybody that I saw was busy, also I was in my work uniform, uniform shirt and shorts, ball cap, so probably thought I was from some shop just there to pick up parts anyway. Will see what happens next week when the key comes in and I go back to pick it up..BTW I'm not a youngster, turn 50 Sunday. Grrrrrrr horid thought............
Later all, I enjoy the posts...

Not quite a dealer story, but oh well:
I was at an auto show a few months ago, and I was in the Porsche area. All the doors were locked to the cars, so I asked one of the girls working there if they had keys, but they wouldn't let me in. I had mentioned that I had a Porsche, then right after my dad walked over and she turned to him and said "So you have a Porsche?" My dad was just like, no he does, and she was a little suprised. Not really a "mean" story, but kinda funny. They still wouldn't let me sit in the TT though.

You don't have to go to even a real Porsche dealer to get abused, I remember when I wanted to buy my 911. I went to a dealer that usually has really nice used Porsches and a few other high end sports cars.
I had a 944 at the time but had just sold it. I pull up in my old 88 GTI 16v in a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, I was by no means young, 30!

There was the Red Carrera I wanted and I wanted it now! It took 5 minutes for them to talk to me.
Than I ask to drive it and this guy says " Well, are you interested in buying it? I have to move all these cars to get it out"
Now I know I should have left but I wanted this car, It was perfect!.
So I say, do I NOT look like I can buy this car? If you want to sell it than you best let me drive it.
Drove it, paid cash.

Turns out they guy was OK and I have sent him customers and even bought another car from them but at the time it really ticked me off.

Had a similar experience one when I went to buy a watch.

The Indy dealer has been good to work with, the other dealers in the 60 mile area are a waste of time. I tend to go to GPR.
