Well you don't have to be young to get the snub at a Porsche dealer. At almost 37 I can say I do not look like a teenager. I also do not dress like a slob or look like white trash. Yet for some reason I get the fade any time I go into (am I allowed to say) Fred Baker Porsche Audi in Cleveland Ohio. This happens regardless of the fact that I have spent countless thousands (not ever again) on service in there and have accompanied my brother-in-law when he purchased two cars from them. There is only one guy at their service desk that is nice and his name is Andy (kind of looks like Bob Vila's sidekick on Home Again).
Now many of you who have tangled with me in many past threads may say it is because I am a dick, but I can assure you I have been only polite and courteous with the folks at Baker.
My guess is I do not reak of new Porsche customer or something. By that I mean that I do not have manicured nails, gold chains (yuck) and cologne o-plenty. Either that or I don't drive the right Porsche.
To top it off, they almost never have what I need in stock and I can get it quicker if I order it from Jason than if I have them get it for me.

I have been to Jim Ellis Porsche a few times recently, the first of which I was greeted quite nicely. The guy saw me checking out a nice Gemballa I believe and just came over and greeted me. He asked what I was looking for. I told him I was in the market for a 944 Turbo, but I knew they didn't have them there. So he told me the bit about only having '99 and newer cars which I already knew. He handed me a copy of Panorama (classifieds) and told me to see him again when I was ready to buy a 911.
The othet two times I stood around for 10+ minutes and was never greeted. Kinda pissed me off.

But OTOH, before I worked at the dealer, (Stevinson Imports, in Denver) there was one sales person who now doesn't work there, that treated me like ****. I went in, lookin at a Porsche, a newer 996, and asked for a test drive. he instantly said, "No, this isn't the Demonstration station" and walked away. a week later, I got the job. you shoulda seen the look on his face when I waltzed in, picked up the keys to that car, and took it for a lil drive around the lot.
Also, at that dealer, there was the best salesman I've ever met. this was a Porsche/Jaguar dealer. when the Jag X-type (POS, IMHO) came out, he sold like, 50 before they were even released. ANYONE who came in that dealership was greeted by this guy. even if he was with a customer. He would bend over backwards to help you. My sister almost bought a car from him, but when she realized that she almost couldn't afford it, he convinced her otherwise. he said that she should buy what she needs, and convinced her that cars are not good investments. she kept her nissan, instead of buying an X-type. he was great.
From my experience working at Stevinson Imports, if someone doesn't treat you right, talk to a manager (except for the ex-service manager) and they will treat ya right.

The only dealer I deal with anymore is Holbert Porsche, on the phone, when I really need those dealer-only parts. I've had too many bad experiences to bother with the local clowns (Bill Crook), and while there's a better dealer not too far away, it still takes too much of my time to drive to the next town over for parts. Usually I just do business with good aftermarket guys like Paragon and 944Racing, those who actually care about our cars and our business! Of course, I'd never buy new, and I'd never buy from a dealer.
That said, I'm best reminded of a line from a show - Absolutely Fabulous.. the main characters are in a fancy shop, and the saleswoman is giving them all kinds of attitude, since they come in (as typical) rather poorly dressed... till Edie fires back "Lose the attitude, sweetie, you work in a shop!" Not a bad time to remind those with the attitudes that, after all, they're just in car sales... week before they were probably at the Ford dealership down the row... you, on the other hand, are an owner! Better yet, a collector! Pthbbbt!!!

True story:
When Elvis Presley was first hitting the big time, and not yet very famous, he went Cadillac shopping. Bear in mind that Cadillac was the premiere luxury car brand of the time.
Elvis shows up at the Cadillac dealership, and is promptly snubbed by all of the salesmen. They won't give the time of day to this young kid with grease in his hair.
Only one man is nice to Elvis, an elderly chap who is washing down a group of cars on the lot. The old man is friendly and chats with Elvis for a while as he washes the cars.
FINALLY, a salesman approaches Elvis and asks (with a sneer in his voice) "So boy, do you think you're going to buy a Cadillac today?"
Elvis replies... "No, I'm going to buy TWO Cadillacs - one for myself, and one for that elderly gentleman washing cars. And HE'S going to get the sales commission on both!"

The true measure of a man (woman) is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.
John Bonham (Led Zepplin) walked into a Rolls Royce dealership in L.A. wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Not recognizing him, the salesman asked him to leave. So, Bonham gets into a new RR and drives it out the front window of the dealership-calmly gets out and tells the salesman to "have it sprayed (re-painted), and deliver it to my house". Man, I wish I was a rock star-

I wish I had F-you money* I've always wanted to be able to buy places where I get treated badly and firing the a-hole.
