Default Quick strut mount question

I recently picked up a set of front struts and springs off a 1986 turbo 944, which I will be using to replace the worn out struts on my 87 NA. The strut mount on top the spring is different on the struts that I bought compared to what is currently on my car. The ones on my car seem deeper and and have a thick rubber around the top bolt, while the ones on the turbo set are just a round metal dish. So what I was wondering, should I just use the strut mount that is currently on the struts I bought, or should I take both sets apart and use the strut mount that originally came with my car with the newer springs and struts? Thank you in advance.

I do not think it matters which mount you use as long as they are sound.

One thing you will want to check before getting in too deep is the width of the strut/spindle connection. IIRC, the '86 strut had a narrower opening than the flange on the later spindle and would not fit. Found this out the hard way when I tried to put some '86 struts on my S2 many years ago.

Good Luck,

18mm width as opposed to 20mm width at the spindle/strut = no worky

I'm building another EARLY modded strut set this morning for another member. They are a PITA to machine but a competent machinist should knock a set of these out in 4130 steel for about $150 or so..... Have fun

Well, I got the struts replaced. The spindle size was the same on both. So an 86 turbo strut will work on an 87 front suspension. The brake line and pad sensor holders were in slightly different locations, but I did get them to work. I went ahead and used the strut mounts from the 86 because mine that were on it were going bad. Now I just have to wait until I get the T.O. bearing replaced before I can take it in and get it realigned.
