Post buying a 944 turbo s

I am looking to buy a 1989 Turbo with 58000 miles. Silver and in excellent condition. Any idea what it's worth. Thanks!

Welcome to the board. In Ohio, that car with a clean bill of health would could be worth between 16 and 17 thousand. Regional prices vary. Make sure to have a PPI done. The 89 is an awesome machine.. ask me how I know! What region is the car in and what are they asking?

Thanks for the welcome. I am in the market for a sports car and a friend of mine (service tech at the Porsche dealer) suggested this car. I know nothing about them really and thought I'd throw it out on this board. Car is in Vancouver and I am going to look at it this week. It should sell for about US$14k. I'm told it is silver with black interior, squeaky clean and unmodified. It has not been in storage for the last year and a half or so and will have to be checked over carefully of course. Anything I should look for in particular? Thanks again.

Sorry, that should say that it has been in storage.

The 944 Turbo S's are one hell of a car. You'll love it I'm sure. Check for what options it has, such as Limited Slip Differentional or M030 suspension. Have a qualified Porsche/944 specialists look over the car before you purchase it. $200 now could save you thousands later.

Some major things to look for would be the clutch, the overall condition of the engine, and the timing belt. If the timing belt breaks, you'll lose some valves and be out a lot of cash to get it back together. If there is no recent record of this being done, add about $1000 to hvae the belts, rollers, waterpump, and possibly the front of the engine resealed.

Finding a good, low-miles, unmodded 951 is becoming harder and harder to do.

At that price I'd say it would be a steal. Timing belts can be a weak point if not maintained.. that car will need them changed if not already done. Water pumps are a weak point too. If neither has been touched, plan to spend 2K$ US to do both and then she'll be all set. Silver is a desirable color.
The 89 944 Turbo is the pinnacle of the Turbo line, extremely fast for a 4 cyl, stunning braking and handling. The car is easily modified to eclipse 300HP, many go beyond 400HP. She's a very competent race car in street car clothing. The most bang for the buck sports car out there.
Browse this forum and search the old posts or ask if you have any more questions. You've already stumbled into the best source for 944 info on the web!

For what it is worth, all the 89s had Mo30, and that included limited slip diff. Technically, the 89 Turbo is NOT a Turbo S, it just has all the Turbo S goodies. 88 was the only year Porsche made a 944 Turbo S. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Just remember, these cars are at least 14 years old, so things can and will break. Do preventive maintanance, not repairs. And it's nice to have a second car, *just in case*.

You will not regret the decision after you take a few quick laps in that car. You will be astounded how great the car is on the track. Unbelievable!

Oh, that is a great price - I know of others looking at it too - it won't sit around at the dealer - I know where it is - very long.
