How to remove tail light?
Hey All,
How do you go about taking out the taillight? My passenger side one is broken and I bought a replacement and I have no idea on how to replace it...!

When I had my 944, I inquired with my (certified Porsche) mechanic, and he said "gentle force". The lens assembly is sealed in, so removal usually destroys the lenses. But since yours is cracked already, you'll be ok. You'll want to get rid of the old seal and replace it with a new one as well.
Good luck!

There are 6 8mm nuts that hold the tailight assembly in place. Remove them. Now gently push the assembly out the rear of the car. Work your way around the edges. The lights are held in by the nuts, and a rubber material.
The rubber material will have to be replaced. It is made by 3M and is carried by NAPA. My store had to order the stuff, but bigger stores may stock it. Normally used for windshield replacement. I have the p/n at home.

Well, my tail lights were just leaking a little, so I didn't persue the replacement. (I ended up drilling tiny holes in the bottom of the lenses...no kidding...to drain any moisture that made it into them.) I think with a proper seal they just fit in. But sorry to say I have no actual experience with that.
Guess I'm not much help then! Others....?

Here's a trick I used when reinstalling. Run a bead of silicone around the car side of the contact area and let it dry. Then install the lens, this basically makes a gasket and if you have to remove it in the future, It won't be glued on.

on My '84 944 the PO had removed the taillights for a paint job, and remounted them with only a rubber strip like the one you use for the tightning windows. And on every rainday i got moisture in the back, since water came in on the edges of the lights.
I removed tehm and remounted them, using Silicone sealer all the way on the edge on the back off the light to make a water tight fit. Some days after mounting i even apply another very thin Silicone on the top edge off the Lights, in the little space between the car body and light.
Now, even after heavy showers, the thrunk is 100% dry.
