Post Hurray for our side, one more into the pack

My older brother got that car I posted about. Him and my dad drove to get it this evening.

They broke the cardinal rule of never buying a car at night, but whatever. Don't tell them that. I hope it works out for him! He's my older brother in reality but he knows who's the man when it comes to p-cars.... Of course, that's between me and him... I'm a lower rung guy on this board...

So, tomorrow he'll become the 1,222nd P-CarOnline member! Haha.

Now I just got to get that troll to get a Rennlist Membership!! Hehe. What do you think John?

61k on an '88 is nothing

history of the car/owner(s)?

service records?

transmission code?

5800 for a really nice 88 sounds fine to me, as long as the belts and stuff are done and it checks out.

Um, that doesn't sound high to me at all. A lot depends on the regional market value for where you live. For around where I live, if the car is in good shape that is a good deal, actually.

That does seem a little high to me for a N/A. Maybe he should shop around a little. Unless he really wants this one.

For what we have where I live anything like that is going for two or three grand more. $5,800.00 sounds like a great deal. I looked at an 85.5 two days ago the guy wanted $2,900.00 I don't have time to even list all the problems. I offered him 750.00 considering the amount of time and money it would take to get this car back into decent shape. Yes, he was mad and I don't have the car today.

If it needs nothing, it sounds like a fair price. Make sure he gets a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). In the midst of car lust it's always difficult to stop and get your "protection", but it saves regrets later! And abstinence is not an option

Buy it, if he changes his mind he can bring it up here where that price would only buy a "fair" example and get out of it at a profit. I didn't bother to save the price guide because it isn't any more accurate than KBB.

I bought my 944 N/A for $3k a year ago with 153,000 on it. I also got receipts dating back to 99. the amount of work total on the receipts were well over what I paid. The PO was asking $3,500, but I talked him down to 3,000. All the other 944 N/As I were looking at were 4,000 to 7,000 and had things needing attention. I have recently put belts and waterpump on myself and new ditributor cap, rotors and wires. Other than those things I have had to done nothing to the car (knock on wood). It all depends on what condition the car is in. At 61K miles I would say its a good deal given every thing was in proper order.

Congrats, Matt! And guess what? Some good news is that I've got a new Porsche!!! Gotta change the belts and stuff over the next week, but it's due to the generosity of others here on Rennlist. My own Porsche baby. Just gotta finish paperwork tomorrow. She needs a paint job, but I will do that after fixing all the little things. She's so sweet, she even has tinted windows! Original radio has to go, ew! But I am happy. Found the original plate in the trunk well, I'm going to tack that onto my wall, on my side of the garage! HEHEHEH. Eat that, roommate!

Julie,

Saw that in the OT forum, congrats! Pretty fun stuff when you buy the used *new* Porsche. They just have the coolest smell....
