Default Odd Throttle Cam issue, cable way too tight

Why is it when I try to do the simplest things they turn into a clusterf#$k?

I got one of the infamous red throttle cams to install on my 85.5 after reading literally dozens of posts on various message boards about how easy it is to install and that there would be extra slack in the throttle cable to be taken out.

Well not my car, no no no. I put the throttle cam and and it's way tighter, holds idle at 3500 RPM. I know HOW to adjust it, I just can't imagine there is that much slack hiding in there allowing it to be adjusted properly. I need to adjust the cable where it is circled in the pic, but I didn't have time to mess with it as there is not an actual "nut" on there so I need to figure out how the retaining collar on there works. I did this late last night after the kids went to bed so I didn't attempt to adjust it without doing some digging first out of fear that I will break something.

So my questions in addition to trying to adjust the cable are:

Is there more than one size cam? Is it possible that I have the wrong one? I doubt it.

New throttle cable? Sounds like a major pain in the a$$.

NOT MY PIC, borrowed it from another thread

LOL, no kidding! I triple checked it, I just thought it was bizarre that 99.99% of people have slack when they install and mine went th other way by a lot. I might have time to mess with it this evening.

Id just put the stock one back in... you might notice the throttle cam makes it tougher to drive on the street. That's how I felt about mine at least.

Done. After staring at it for 15 minutes straight I realized the PO had bent the bracket that holds the cable to the TB backwards. So All I had to do was put a set of vice grips on it and bent it forward, problem solved. No adjustments needed. Thanks guys!!

haha...i find that the absolute best way to solve the strange and seemingly unsolvable car mysteries is to grab a beer and a chair and sit and stare at it until you fall asleep, give up, or actually figure it out!

I found this nice factory engine picture and noticed that this picture does not feature stupid truck throttle cam.
So it looks like that the stock cam was only fitted for idiot proof-ness on cars sold to general public, other cars were equiped with this cam, that is in essence same as aftermarket cam

btw; sorry for thread hijack, but I thought I'll share without opening new thread

I remember that few days ago somebody said that upgrading throttle cam is not good since the factory used that truck piece.

Turns out the factory used even shorter version than aftermarket cams..
