Post Hey

Isn't it great driving a Porsche

It's like putting on a Tom Cruise or a Cindy Crawford costume.

Your the most popular person around.

Love it when late model Rustang drivers look at 19 yr old cars with envy.

Ilove mine. Even if it is testing my resolve at the moment.

But there is nothing like counting how many other P-cars you see on the road and knowing you are part of that, and how many others are not.

A girl getting out of her brand new jeep mentioned to me that my 924S was cooler than her car. I felt compelled to mention to her that my car was 16 years older than hers. Left out the part about how I purchased mine for 1/10th the amount she paid for hers

I was walking into Blockbuster the other day when I saw a couple of young guys (earlier 20s) do a couple slow laps around my 88 951 checking it out. For the first 10 seconds or I so, I was thinking 'don't touch it, don't touch it'. It felt good to have the new generation check out my car like that....

Sid- you getting into Haiku's?
It is amazing the looks it gets- it seem's the "kid's" like the looks even before they know what it is.. Pull up in a 7-11 sometime. I enter for a diet coke- and usually come out to a few kids looking at it. It's not unusual for a guy to look at the engine when I'm checking oil in the gas station either.

Mostly I get middle-aged guys like myself looking at the car, because they are the ones who know the car and its heritage.

My wife's favourite line is "it looks like a Datsun." She is referring to the original 240Z, whhich shared a similar 1970's styling heritage. Then when we wnet to a local car show, the first car she commented on was a 944; "Looks like a Datsun." Second car she commented on was a 1971 240Z; she didn't realize it WAS a Datsun. Third car she made the comment about was a 1970 Ferrari 365GTB/4 (Daytona), my all-time favorite car, so I didn't feel too bad anymore.

I used to think the "kids" didn't know anything about 951s. Then one day I had it parked in front of a restaurant in Uclulet. Three skateboarders were hanging around out front, which made my wife nervous for the car. When the three of them walked by, two of them pretty much ignored it, but the third walked straight into a lamp post while staring at my car. I think he must have known what he was looking at.
