Default Aftermarket Axle vs. a Rebuild

I see that 944 online has aftermarket axles. They look to be new but manufactured by an aftermarket provider.

But then rockauto has rebuilt axles that are pretty cheap as well. Like $70 for one. after the core charge. Autozone is holding up my order so I need to do something. Its either rockauto with the warranty or 944 online that doesn't have grease packed cv's.

I've used those cheap ($89) Lifetime Warranty axles from Kragen (O'Reilly) on NA's and 951's w/ great results. The manufacturer was Cardone on the ones I bought. I never had to return one and it's so much simpler and cleaner to just swap an axle than go through the drudgery of cleaning and repacking a CV.

Autozone is dicking around with my order. I just want my axles. I ordered them on sunday and they haven't been shipped out yet. I want get them in before Thanksgiving. Cardone does autozone's and rock auto's. Only reason I wanted to get them local was because if I have a problem I can just take them back instead of shipping them back and all that. But oh well looks like rockauto will have to come through for me.

if you want cheap, i'd try the new one from 944online. the aftermarket one, as long as it has been heat treated. I think you responded to my post on here called "axle dilemma" the ones from cardone are NOT heat treated. and in my opinion, not worth it, unless you like playing with CV axle goo.

I am going to get a new one from AZ when they come in (since cardone is out of them too) and just return it that day to get my $$ back. very displeased with the results I have just had. they were fine for my 944S but then again, it had half the HP....

Its hit or miss on these things. I'm going to try them out and if they are absolutely no good then I will return them and get my money back.

I thought my axles were causing an issue, but it turns out that it was actually from my exhaust hitting the body of the car. I actually ended up changing my axles twice. I ran the cardone ones for about 1 week and then when I took them off(noise still present) I examined them and one CV joint would bind up. The axles are regrinds. Sometimes you can have good luck sometimes not. Its a toss up.

My mechanic repacked the CV joints on my rear axles last spring, and they've held up perfectly through several track events and a few months of street driving too. You may want to look into rebuilding your current axles
