I actually *found* an amp under the steering column on my car when I pulled the dash out a month or so ago. For a moment I got excited and thought I had some sort of amazing ECU kit since it was right next to the stock ECU. 
It was sort of screwed onto a bracket running behind the dash... wasn't a very big amp though, looked to be part of something like a 90's Kenwood system or something.
