Default Finally fixed my rear defroster!

I've been living with a dead defroster for 2 colorado winters now and it, quite frankly, had gotten old. I had troubleshot the system and managed to get 12v to the grid (both sides) but couldn't figure out why it still didn't work. After all that tiny wire off the passenger side strut was grounded well and it should work... Right?

Well, i'm stupid and had not seen this

http://www.924.org/techsection/rear_defrost.htm

The struts in my car were installed upside down AND were on the wrong sides of the car. So the metal end was on the hatch on the drivers side, not the body on the passenger, this end is the actually ground for the system. So i've switched them around per this guide and Poof! what do you know, the damn defroster works now

I hope this helps some you in your quest to get a working Defroster, especially with winter rapidly approching.

glad you got yours fixed.

I know I use mine a lot in the winter since I have no rear wiper even though the rear wiper would do much in snow.

I would think rear view mirror glue would do a good job of holding metal to glass but, passing electrons is a different problem.

Mine used to not work in my old car. I just grounded it with wire. It was kind of ghetto but worked great. Does anyone use the autozone rear hatch struts?
