Just as an update to this old thread .. the Koni yellows are just about finished (3 of the 4 are on!) and it's going in for an alignment + good tires on Monday . I didn't do the springs though, because I figured I'de wait till I do the torsion bar stuff to do that so its more balanced and stuff.. was this a wise decision or should I have just gone and done the springs too? Also, what is my next step - stiffer rear sway bar (968)? Thanks!

You did the right thing on waiting for the T-bars. About the sways, I have a set from a 944 Turbo S for sale if you are interested. They are a huge improvement over yours.

Goin to upgrade yet again?
What will you be upgrading to?
Schlag, dont worry, shipping wont be too expensive...it was $15 or $17 or something from US to Germany via USPS insured for the turbo S sways.

Nifty.. any word on whether its optimal to install only rear, or rear+front with stock tbar+springs with konis all around.. ? The earlier post I think suggested only rear, which is why I ask.

sorry if this is a dumb question but i want to stay in the stock class and i have a question for any metro NY guys about the class rules.
their rules say:
"Suspension: Aftermarket shocks, struts, bushings, sway bars, springs and torsion bars are allowed in stock (P) classes. However, stock mounting points are required. No machining is allowed."
i want to get koni yellows and coilovers from paragon, their site says you haveto modify the struts for the konis and you should remove the spring perch for the coilovers, if i do this will i be breaking the no machining rule and get bumped to modified?

Schlag:
Here's my 2-cents. I'm brand new to performance driving .... 1.5 years to be exact. My 944 N/A has stock 200# Weltmeister front springs (yes, shorter, but not 250#); Bilstein shocks all 'round; stock rear-torsion bars; slightly larger than stock anti-sway bar in front... 25mm I think (stock rear); I've run 22/50/15's and 225/45/17's street stock tires (yoko's and now looking at Falken Azenis). The car is 'lowered' by about 1 to 1.5" from original height, with corner-balanced and -1.5 deg. camber (cambre) for quick turn-in. In short.... a fairly stock set up. Cheap on the wallet with good results.
My first full year of 'racing' and I've managed to tie for 3rd in my class (GS/S) out of roughly 26 other drivers.
Great instruction and plenty of seat-time was my best 'modification' for better performance driving. So, adjust what you have on the car..... maybe consider some front springs..... and focus on the 'nuts and bolts behind the steering wheel.' BTW: the #1 and #2 drivers in my class run set-ups similar to mine. Nothing real fancy in their cars, either. Just good, smooth skills.
Just my thoughts. Have fun with the car, keep your cash in your pocket. ~(;-D>

Here is my intepretation...
Shocks are allowed. Since you cannot get the entire strut body you NEED to machine a little to use the same shock that is no longer avalible.
You do NOT need to cut off the lower perch on the strut to fit the coilover's I have these on my race car and still have the stock perch.
So you really don't have any "machining" done.. Got It

Schlag, Do both ends. One of these events Z-man and I are going to have to trade cars for a run or something, while a little stiffer rear bar would be nice for DE I'm happy with the ballance I have now for AX (read, I have no problem bringing the rear around with throttle and he has another 50 hp)
Dan, You sure you read that right!?!?!?
Springs are OPEN in stock class there???? Expect to get protested if the aftermarket springs don't sit in the stock perches though. IIRC, here that is the difference between improved class and modified, the stiffer springs (welts) put you into I1 and smaller diameter with adjustable perches put you in M1 (unless your option sticker includes MO30).
